I find any naysayers to the idea of a server wipe to be very short sighted.

For all intents and purposes, if the admins are able to reintroduce Classic (minus Kunark) content, and then patch Kunark when deemed appropriate - the server ought to be wiped considering all the bologna that has gone on for years.

Out of let's say 500 active players, I imagine 50 players would not return due to losing their current character.

That said, I cannot foresee the constant population dipping below 1000 until Kunark again becomes stagnant in a year and a half.

I obviously no longer have a dog in the race, but I'm interested why folks (who clearly play here out of love for classic EQ) would oppose a total wipe/revert to Classic with timelocked expansions (Kunark/Velious)?

Isn't killing giant rats in Qeynos Sewers to hit level 5 more fun than camping Fungi King for weeks to buy BiS gear, for which you have absolutely no need?

Wiping the server won't stop what's going on in this very thread. It'll just start again from net new. Why piss off your entire collective playerbase when you aren't going to effect any change anyway? Sellers will level up, make plat/farm items, and start selling again as soon as they're able. Buyers will continue to buy when there is something to spend cash on that they want.

This is false through and through.

If the server were wiped RIGHT NOW, there would be quadrupple the population on line when the server restarts than there is currently.

Also, tracking RMT transactions from a zero'd server would be impossibly easy.

You know, I really just hate the idea of P99 going stagnant. This server ought to be treated like the marvel it is. THis is the only place left where you can play Classic EQ. TMO did a great job emerging as top dog, IB did a great job competing for years, DA too.

There isn't enough parody to sustain a happy population anymore.

Clearly, I'm speaking for myself at this point considering the last few replies. I can't help but be surprised. I mean, the idea that folks wouldn't prefer to ditch their mains (who at this point serve only as farm bots for everyone's army of alts) for a fresh start under what could be a redefined set of rules (ie no poopsocking etc) is strange to me.

I wonder if a lot of you people were even around to enjoy the server when it was worth playing on.

The funniest thing to me, and no offense meant at all, but to anyone opposing a wipe - Despite some griping and bitching, the server population would increase (and maintain steady high numbers for a very very long time) and YOU would play and love every minute of it.

You cannot say you wouldn't play and enjoy yourself. I fully understand if the top end geared folks, or folks close to finishing their epic, or even those who are in their 30's and 40's and not dealing with this high end drama don't agree. The fact of the matter is, you'd still play.

Personally, I'd probably start a character and never join a guild nor ever identify that the person behind the character is me. I just love EverQuest, and again my juxtaposition on this idea of a wipe stems from wanting to see P99 continue to succeed.
