From what ive read, casters are a step behind rn compared to melee...but I'm sure theyll balance that before Julys launch. At least I hope so.

How does something like necro fit into the A? Are dot classes sidelined?
The game is faster paced due to weaker mobs and greatly increased out-of-combat health/mana/endurance regen (each gaining 4% per tick, so you can regen a full 40% in only one minute, and you don't have to med/sit for this benefit either). This fundamental design choice has the side effect of tremendously devaluing any sort of "efficiency" spells, like DoTs, and health/mana regen spells. Therefore the only DoTs worth using are the very short duration ones (<1 min), and only then on the higher difficulty levels where mobs have more HP. Necros are currently one of the worst classes in EQL, because their primary strength in the traditional game (mana efficient damage and healing) has been rendered totally irrelevant.

They are adding a system for casters similar to the melee stance system (I think it is called "Invocations"), but it has yet to be revealed exactly how it will work. Hopefully it does help, because casters are definitely weaker as it stands, and will remain so absent a serious buff/intervention of some sort. The nature of EQL's item upgrading process alone benefits melee classes much more than casters, and the stance system only adds to the disparity (i.e. Offensive stance doubles auto-attack damage, Defensive stance halves incoming damage, Striker stance multiplies Backstab/Flying Kick/Frenzy damage by 3-5x). Casters really need something like this. They also may need ways to upgrade spells the way that items can be upgraded. I also expect them to make a lot more adjustments to spells the way they did with Cleric CH (converting a 10 sec cast to a .25 cast with an 18 second delay). I think other heals will get similar treatment, and perhaps some nukes as well. We should also see upgrades to pets in the form of pet stances. I also wouldn't be surprised if Necros in particular have their DoT lines adjusted to tick much faster, doing full damage in something like 5-6 ticks. This would make them much, much better than they currently are. It will be interesting to see what they come up with.

I'm glad I read this thread to dissolve my interest in EQL. I'm happy for y'all to have something that will scratch your itch, but this seems like it's only EverQuest in name.

One of the reasons I love EQ is that each class fills a specific niche (and it's incredibly difficult game by modern standards) and requires class synergy between separate players to achieve success.

This seems like it's just a way to milk money from people who love the Lore, world, graphics -- but it fundamentally changes what made EQ great.

My question: Did all of you who are swooning over EQL also like PoP? Or did you feel like the fast travel ruined EQ?
