I dunno where you got that definition of irony, maybe the same place as Alanis..

Irony is a use of words in which the implied meaning is at odds with the literal meaning. It's a very specific defined term. There are situational ironies as well, but those apply even less. Coincidencidental and/or unexpected events are not ironic, dontchya think?

/snore
Just merriam-websters i guess they aren't the hasbinbad approved dictionary?

They have it further defined for those of you who can't even understand the definition.

http://www.learnersdictionary.com/search/ironic

this is merriam websters learners dictionary for those of you are too stupid to use the regular one.

[more ironic; most ironic] 1 : using words that mean the opposite of what you really think especially in order to be funny
▪ an ironic remark ▪ She has an ironic sense of humor. ▪ an ironic writing style
2 : strange or funny because something (such as a situation) is different from what you expected
▪ It's ironic that computers break down so often, since they're meant to save people time. ▪ It is ironic that the robber's car crashed into a police station.
— iron·i·cal·ly /aɪˈrɑ:nɪkli/ adverb
▪ He wrote ironically [=in an ironic way] about his experiences during the war. ▪ Ironically, [=it is ironic that] the robber's car crashed into a police station.

Words mean the same thing no matter your age, i just linked a source at your level of understanding because you apparently couldn't understand the big boys version.

Also, if we are gonna be spelling nazi's/grammar police the term is bated breath

Oxford's version, in case you were wondering where webster got his mojo:

"the expression of one's meaning by using language that normally signifies the opposite, typically for humorous or emphatic effect"

So Alarti, when I call you smart, and profoundly so, you can be sure that I am using irony.
