I'm obviously biased. That said, in my experience it's just a positive environment. I don't know if you've been to any comicons or anything of the sort, it'd be like that only more specialized so a larger % of the people you encounter there are into the same things that you are so it's very easy to meet someone and strike up a conversation.

Sure, I like cons, but they're mostly about getting drunk and high and chubby girls with a lot of cleavage. I have a secret desire to get good enough at painting to sell pictures of angels and demons and dragons and crap like that, but don't tell anyone at my art school. I like the geek community, science fiction, swords and sorcery. I just don't care for the anime part of anime.

Heard that. Magic is actually really expensive, too, especially if you play a lot of sealed deck or booster draft. You can cash out at the end, though; I pulled about $30K out of my collection when all was said and done. I'm just going to pretend that was profit and ignore all the money I spent on travel and entry fees.

I guess we're more well behaved at anime cons.

Con opens at 8-10am depending, and mostly everyone is sober until around 8-9pm.

Having been to a few Sci-Fi cons I agree with this stereotype there but with anime cons you'd be surprised how many "hot chicks" there are that vastly outnumber the chubs and most of the latter are the cute kinda chubby. The guys on the other hand... eh... 50/50?
