In the #MeToo era, many in the music industry have been producing and awarding sexually exploitive lyrics.

In eight of the 20 songs, singers used the word “bitch” a total of 55 times, with 15 blatant instances of women being treated as sex objects. Cardi B, a woman and a wanna-be #MeToo activist, had a new Top-20 song about dominating “bitches” and giving them drugs. Newly minted rap star Post Malone and Ty Dolla $ign rapped that they “can take yo’ bitch,” and receive oral sex from “hoes.” And Kendrick Lamar’s “King’s Dead” (which used “bitch” seven times) grossly detailed oral sex.

It's very simple why hip-hop wont catch hell for any of this... It doesn't advance the narrative that conservative white men in your office setting are the ones mostly responsible for objectifying women and holding them back.

Vladimir Lenin thought if you just wait for a spontaneous revolution...it will never happen. So he proposed forming a Vanguard -- this Vanguard would agitate the workers and then guide their thoughts and ideology toward Marxism.

I think it is safe to say he never created the social utopia he was trying to. But he discover some useful ways to manipulate popular dissatisfaction...What was the response to the Trump election?

#Metoo. This was not spontaneously directed by the people. This was directed by Vanguard of elites who thought it was a great opportunity to get rid of Bill'O and Roger Ales. That's about it.

These things go in stages. You create the villains out of some easy targets and call upon the masses to do something about it. Then the enforces inevitably go too far (Aziz)...then you purge the enforcers. Cycle complete. The media and government elites come out smelling like roses, all the hostility being successfully channeled to a couple of patsies.

This is how corporations run. There is a bottom line that must be reached god damnit! We need those shoes NOW -- for less money...then Nike out and claims they didn't know that company was hiring children to make shoes...and then forcefully condemn their horrible actions.

Except what do you think is going to happen when you set the environment for some nameless people to stand up and do what needs to be done? Why does Nike go to the third world and not open factories -- but rather offer contracts to those ready to make shoes? Why would strategy like that be cheaper than vertical integration?

There has been a big study on race and inequality recently done by Harvard. I'll try to read the study myself and do a proper post later. But for now this really caught my eye...not in the article posted at the nation...but in the comments section:

The black-white income gap is entirely driven by differences in men’s, not women’s, outcomes.

Among those who grow up in families with comparable incomes, black men grow up to earn substantially less than the white men. In contrast, black women earn slightly more than white women conditional on parent income. Moreover, there is little or no gap in wage rates or hours of work between black and white women.

We find analogous gender differences in other outcomes: black-white gaps in high- school completion rates, college attendance rates, and incarceration are all substantially larger for men than for women. Black women have higher college attendance rates than white men, conditional on parental income. For men, the gap in incarceration is particularly stark: 21% of black men born to the lowest-income families are incarcerated on a given day, far higher than for any other subgroup.”

It also neglects to mention that Hispanics are upwardly mobile or that Native American men have worse outcomes than black men. But then nuance doesn’t make great headlines.

I think there is some talking past each other as each time I try to narrow the conversation to specific points (ownership of people and modern equivalents to peasant workers) you broaden the scope to be about all women again.

When I respond to you or anyone else I assume it's part of the larger conversation that's been going on for 70-odd pages now. I'm not trying to avoid talking about specific points at all, it's just not always clear when someone wants to discuss something specific and when they're making specific arguments for their larger point.
