(I deleted my post because everyone has a right to be upset)

Should they have ported it to switch for free?
It very much has to do with what you said, you seem upset that final fantasy tactics was updated and re-released on switch.

Should they have used AI to update the art instead of real people?

You can play the old one for free, if you never once purchased the game in your life, you can even do it for like 20$ plus shipping:

Im confused why you are upset.

Do you think we should just AI to just update the game and then it could be cheaper?

Or do you think that people should work on it for free, or that square should pay them, and just give away games for free?

30 year old games are not worth $50. It's actually going up in price from the original. I don't know or give a shit about what they're doing on the Switch. This is a PC port with no physical media. Square Enix is a scummy company these days.

It costs money to port extremely niche games onto new platforms.

And artists, and actors to update the sprites and voice over. QA testers to ensure it functions, new marketing materials, payments to content creators etc.

It easily costs 50$ per game to do all that.

Just so you know, they ported it to PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC (Steam).

All of which -1 require physical media production.

And all of those need QA teams and programmers. And artists, since it's got a graphical update. Should they all just work for free? Use AI instead?

You bring up a great point about working for free and AI, repeatedly... 3 times now. That's an idiotic way to twist a legitimate grievance about the price gouging for an old product with minimal value added. Square isn't the only company doing this. Diablo 2, Oblivion, BG 1/2, Torment, Icewind Dale. Etc. Every company doing this is making a quick buck off an old IP with minimal investment and they're scumbags for doing so.

I'm trying to inform you that you are not being price gouged.

And what you are asking for would require people work for free, or to replace humans with AI.

Just try to see the other side of the coin.

Voice acting and copy pasting to a new engine is not $50 of value or anywhere close to developing a new game, most of which do not cost that much. It's a ripoff and an insulting price point.

You vastly do not understand how it works.

1. They have to hire sag actors because if they dont they can't hire them for any other games the company makes. that makes the actors thousands of dollars per hour more.

2. Programmers for games can be paid 200k salaries for doing the same work building AI death machines with palmer lucky, but they chose to make kids happy, should they make no money if they make that choice?

3. Marketing alone costs more money than you can possibly imagine, dwarfing both of these other two.

It's not insulting to sell a game for 40$, something that (you should keep for your whole life so you can play it for free when you're 40 years old).

You're right about that, a new game should cost 150$

Burt square didnt copy and paste this game, and that's not how porting to new platforms works either.

I think it should be free and they should just use AI art.
