You're right, I was one of the QQ'ers in the past, but I've seen the light over the last several months. The server is what we make of it. It has been picking up and there's plenty of fun to be had.

Macroquest doesn't physically touch/modify packets.

Macroquest hooks into the actual Memory EQGame.exe uses.

ShowEQ reads packets. However, Project1999 encrypts certain portions of the packets and payloads. Thus why you don't get full working Maps and spawn names are garbled (Less you can decrypt them, which I doubt is very hard).

The two ways for detection is that Roegan has a dll that reads the same memory that eqgame.exe and checks for additional hooks and compare expected results. Second is to purposefully send a malformed packet and watch for people to go LD (Macroquest expecting a struct with 18bytes, gets one with 24 bytes.... blargh it CTDs).

While yes you "may" get away with it in the short term you will not get away with it in the long term. Rogean does not want to auto-ban people because have been false positives.

With limited staff (that can be trusted) it is much harder to have someone babysit logs and administer punishment.

How do you think one of us would go about proving someone on this server is cheating? Tell me right now, do you think anyone on this server is currently using outside programs to cheat on red99? I'm not asking if you are involved or saying you do RMT, etc.

Are people boxing? Yes. Do I have logs of people admitting to boxing? Yes. Are people using MQ? I have no idea, I personally have never used MQ and don't know what it's use would look like. I haven't ran into people randomly porting on top of me or running @ cheetah speed or anything like that, no. I've been on plenty of wipes in Nihilum, the majority of mobs we kill drop awful loot, and every bug I've encountered so far has made the encounters far more difficult than they are meant to be, not easier.
