This is probably the "best" guitarist alive IMHO, skill and style.

John Williams performing Asturias (Leyenda), by Albeniz - a song popularized by Andres Segovia and later by The Doors.

This is him in 1975, much more of a primal performance.

This was recorded much more recently, and demonstrates his absolute mastery of the art.

Of course I have, but I was trying to draw a comparison between the two, and the best way to compare two styles is to isolate as many variables as possible. A great way of doing that when comparing musicians is to select a song they have in common. Which is why I chose Little Wing and Voodoo Chile (Slight Return).

SRV was out to prove that "not only Jimi could play like Jimi," and he certainly did that, I am absolutely not questioning his skill, but he is certainly a two bit hack as far as his style goes. Fucking 12 bar blues with a Jimi twist? Give me a fucking break. Even Hendrix himself got down on better blues than that.

God damn, just listening to this.. It's so obvious SRV just wholesale stole everything Jimi is about. Basically, you could take Jimi's work on this recording of Red House, and break it up into little pieces, and pretty much come up with combinations of that to match any known SRV lick. LMFAO.

Hasbin I'm sorry, it's pretty clear that you are a poseur and a two-bit hater.

I invented minor pentatonic anyways - they're ripping me off here.

SRV is a two bit hack compared to Jimi Hedrix.

A sad biter.

Saying "better than Hendrix" is somewhat of a misnomer. At the level of amazing which Hendrix inhabited, there is not really a "better." There is "different," but not "better."

If you really want to see the best other than Jimi exercise skill, I suggest watching this video:

<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/_D_yT12gG-s?version=3&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/_D_yT12gG-s?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>

Or listening to this:
<object width="420" height="315"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/VpmOTGungnA?version=3&amp;hl=en_US"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/VpmOTGungnA?version=3&amp;hl=en_US" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="420" height="315" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true"></embed></object>
Not trying to argue subjectivity are you? Django dude sounds good. Bobby Blue Bland fan by chance? Basis of my opinion is that originals are better. If anything Hendrix should get more credit for what he did in experimenting with the electric guitar. Not denying his talent, but Johnson and Wolf express it better with what they used. They all had an understanding of life in their times that can't be denied, but I'd argue that Hendrix lucked out a lot with how the music industry was going at that time because if it was some mix of blues and rock it sold whether it was good or not. Hell, The Doors got hugely popular around the same time.
