I remember people being pissed about wizard groups running around and manaburning old world raid mobs but I don't recall an uproar about it in PvP.

Back on live during Velious I would say the mage epic pet was probably the most over powered PvP bitch. well that and getting crated by that axe from western wastes are what people thought were unbalanced.

I certainly remember necro's camping PoK tomes all the time with Lifeburn, though it got nerfed significantly iirc. I don't recall manaburn though but maybe

I may go Wizard this time. Playing a bard was a bit too much work and I never want to do the mage epic again or camp a tranquil staff again so that would rule out those 2 classes.

Only downside of a wizard would be on a single box server you could never camp any items solo. Unless you are after something well below your range...

Wizards were great in pvp and group pve. They were never intended to be major solo classes. Remember that porting is a huge advantage on a pvp server.

You absolutely could manaburn people. 60 Wizards had Manaburn (instant kill) and instant Nexus gate, along with everything else. They were fucking scary.

Necros had LB which was essentially another 1shot kill, and SK's had DT.

If you could go back in time to replay everquest from its inception, you go: Druid til Luclin, Wizard until pop, Bard afterwords. Anything else and you're doing it wrong.
