OP, if you're still reading this, I have a good solution for you. If you are running AdBlock you can right click on the image and block it like an ad. I use Chrome and the adblock version on Chrome gave me a little slider that blocked various levels of things on the page. All the way to the left is just the img and the url for the image. Blocking it keeps his posts (assuming you don't like ignoring people because after you do they might say something useful... which is my phobia) (inb4 doors posts aren't useful). It doesn't block all avatars, just the specific image you chose to block. It should theoretically work on every page because it is recognizing the url of the image he is using.
