This wasn't a typo BTW. As a foreman I've had to train dozens, if not hundreds of people, and less than 1:10 people are capable of even making it to top of a 30 foot tall tree.

The attrition rate is so high that they didn't even tell me they hired me to be a climber. The guy saw the recon part in my email and later admitted that was the only reason he even hired me. He said given my Military background that he assumed I would be able to handle the mental and physical aspect of the job, and he was right.

I remember my first day there, there was a kid up in a tree, and another guy on the ground using a non-conductive pole to pull a tree branch away from the wire because it was touching the tree that guy was in and zapping him. I remember thinking "what the fuck did I sign up for exactly"

like for most people being physically fit is just a hobby, but for me, most of my jobs = being physically fit is mandatory, and the more fit you are, the better you are at your job.

People usually want to avoid conflict, it reminds me of the old EverQuest where instead of having a GM show up and ban someone for wanting to do the same content as you, players are forced to communicate with one another. Most boxed people are actually the least confrontational because they are the most likely to get banned if someone reports them since they're like violating some type of box law just by existing.

Decorated war veteran, college graduate, former paramedic (which is a 2 year degree in my state), certified arborist.. like go look up what they actually make before you say stupid shit lmao. Well, the ground crews are. I saw one guy get knocked in the gut and flung 30 feet from a limb that kicked out of a chipper. Messed him up pretty good and those guys weren't making much more than minimum. Climbers make good money though, but they earn it. I don't know any long-time climbers who don't have disabilities caused from falls or other injuries. That's the kind of job it's best to get out of while the getting's good.
