I'm going to use common sense logic and reasoning to evaluate this "situation".

Had the government or media ever lied before to terrorize a large population? Yes constantly, too much proof to even bother posting of researching right now.

The goal: to scare everyone.
The tool: lying

If : the government wants to scare everyone
Then: they will lie to do it

So i would say there is some truth in most lies that's what makes them good lies. So basically you have to be honest with yourself. Does the government(media) lie constantly? That's the answer.

How do you know the “proof” you speak of aren’t just more lies?

Perhaps YOU’RE being lied to about the government/media lying to people in order to scare them. Would you know the difference?
