i quit during live velious because I disliked it so much and already felt the deviation from the original game, I feel you OP I really prefer classic/kunark but alas as a collective EQ players are niche enough we gotta make some compromises you feel

Honestly i would play a vanilla only server, would actually prefer playing the base game and only the base game. Kunark and Velious were really shit expansions.

During 1999-2000, 33/56K modems were already losing the battle to cable/DSL if I remember correctly. Broadband wasn't terribly impressive, however.

Maybe some of you folks played on really old equipment, but let's not go too crazy on how fast/slow things were. Sure, if you tried to run maximum clipping and particle effects during a raid, you'd have a bad time, but I don't recall having any fundamental gaming issues with reasonable settings.

I do believe that if we are talking older computers/systems to bring back the true classic experience we must also talk of going back to where we were in our life when we first encountered the ever quest. I imagine many would have to go back to being in high school and anxiously awaiting that final bell so that they could go home and immerse themselves in the land of trolls, dragons, ninja looters, corpse runs, and the like and have a parent around to chide them about being up to all hours of the night when they are just trying to wait out this Hadden spawn damnit and if they look away for even a moment they might miss it and that shady looking dark elf that has swung by the pond several times might steal it from you and then when you get Hadden but no earring you know that six hours later you gotta be there and you shamefully set an alarm to interrupt your sleep and get up at 4 in the morning to log in because you know he's spawning at 4:21 and you want to be there for it for that fishbone earring stuff but of course none of this experience was mine rather I was just throwing out a hypothetical and in the end I would agree with the sentiment that the true classic experience is gone forever, but if they come out with really good mindwipe technology I wouldn't mind erasing my knowledge of everquest and start "brand new" and then I would probably mind wipe knowing how to ride a bike as well because screw it. I never liked bikes anyways and i'm honestly not sure I've ridden one in the past 20 years so it seems like a useless waste of space, much like the cat people of kerran isle are a waste of space unless I'm missing something and one of them drops like the supreme ball of yarn that has god like stats but I highly doubt that, in fact I think I might just go to kerran isle and slaughter the cat people the next time that I'm on and claim their island in the name of the peoples of Oggok as I am sure that all Ogres know it is about time we expanded our territories and gained a foothold into other areas of Norrath but ultimately classic EQ is going the way of the dodo bird, sabertooth tiger (RL), and the emperor penguins and perhaps the people getting the true classic EQ experience are those who come to p99 brand new and never played Everquest before.
