What the hell sort of 'standards' does YouTube have though? Maybe someone didn't like it and reported it? Guessing maybe an automated suspension for reported things and that why they have the appeal button?

you're overthinking it, let's use occam's razor here. Who owns youtube? What do they want you to think? Good content that has wrongthink gets banned. Poor content that has wrongthink gets millions of views untouched. They know what they're doing.
