I saw this opening weekend for free while visiting a relative in Santa Monica. I didn't especially like it, nor did I feel entertained by it. Halfway through the film I kept finding myself comparing it to Eragon from 2006. It was intended to be a fun fantasy film that didn't want to make you think very hard with the plot. It was made for fans of the game for certain, with all of the locations and events sort of strung together without much thought.
Tons of Chinese loved the film, as did tons of NA and EU fans of the game. So I get that, and its final gross might be acceptable. Maybe I would have enjoyed the film if it hadn't been so damned predictable with the story being forced to adhere to the established canon of the games. I dunno. The baby moses in the river really sank it for me at the end. | ||
