If a gorilla does a rend attack it means its very very very angry, and it getting hit with a tranq dart doesn't cut it. It would just assume it was being attacked from outsiders, the gorilla was already being protective of the child and probably would have continued to protect it.

Chimps would have shredded the kid into pieces limb from limb as soon as he fell into the pit. We have plenty of evidence to back this up.

It's beyond biology my friend. You would need conclusive data and trials to show a gorilla non violent while under the influence of drugs. Also while being near a homosapien child
