i taught for a while. def did not make 50k. that racket really sucks and im glad i had the qualifications to leave b4 it got too late. not a funny joke at all to make light of the state of that profession

good benefits and pension tho

$50k, pension and good benefits is plenty for working 3/4 the year. People get righteous about teaching and we pretend to put the glorified babysitters on a pedestal but they are compensated just fine. I don't think we should stop praising them though, it seems to make them feel better about themselves.

should add. if u make 50k, pension, and good benefits teaching you really did make it past a whole lot of competition and really have nothing to complain about. so yes i agree.

most i saw, including me, did not make half that. i did it as an adjunct at a comm college for about 20k and no benefits. obv did not stick around enough to earn a pension. also wasnt my only job. was a tough era. gums got fucked up and had to make tough decisions on health, rent, and food

my mom was a teacher all her life, she just retired a few months ago. she will be the last of the teachers to retire with a decent retirement.

basically there is no incentive to be a teacher now beyond wanting to teach for shitty yearly salary. it was ok when u got a shitty salary and a really good retirement. But that is no longer the case.
