Learn a trade. Start at $10-12/hr. and expect about $2 raise every year. Work for someone else for $40/hr as a plumber or electrician, or start your own company and charge $120-$180 hour. No college education required.

Find an employer who bids prevailing wage jobs in California. By law we have to be paid $72/h on weekends, $46/h weekday minimum. And this is any job - pushing a blower, sweeping a street, putting in street signs, painting a building, sealing a parking lot, etc any public works contract.
