I would have to dig all that stuff up again but that's your direction. Why that isn't more commonly noted is crazy. The radiation belt and all that shit definitely made me think it wasn't possible, but they did it.

From what I understand the primary mission, once they had accomplished it, was to confirm the theory of recurring Novae.
There were a lot of soil samples taken which contained glass-like material, and scorched-fused solids which indicate the sun has reucurring-Novaed approximately every 12,000 years around the time our geological record indictates a magnetic polar reversal event and subsequent ice age occurred on earth. This also completely changes the geological scale of time required for the breakup of Pangaea, because a major nova would heat the layer beneath the mantle and allow for rapid movement of landmasses across a "more liquid" magma substrate layer. While also messing with our pottassium-argon beta-decay and alpha-decay contemporary radioactive dating methods. The theory was posited after the discovery of the recurring supernova phenomenon. Basically once a star starts fusing Iron and heavier elements, in order to prevent the death of the star it novas to eject those heavier elements from itself, which is why we have Gold and other heavier elements scattered across the planets of still functioning solar systems. If this phenomenon weren't the case, gold and elements heavier than iron would be exceedingly rare; nigh impossible to find, in an intact still-functioning solar system since the only mechanism by which it can exist is as an ejection from a star; that is to say, unless out solar system coalesced on top of an already dead super-novaed solar system, we wouldn't have heavy elements in it. Every planet would just be gaseous planets.

as for any theorized recurring jettison phenomenon in our Sun that is of much larger scale than the usual flares and matter beams I am not familiar with it, but you are mistaken about heavier elements. They exist all over the place, posited into existence by the "meta-nova" that is teh big bang [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] teh costmos's's positions and its bodies of masses can't be inferred by local cause and effects involving phenomena we are aware of like stars, their novas, accretion of mass from intersecting novas forming new stars or other bodies etc. This happens but there is more to it than replicating stars / stars distributing mass; it is true to say that this is where NEW gold is being made out of hydrogen and helium however. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] But the gold that stripes our planet is NOT from the sun in the standard model anyway. Overall, I must take issue with what I perceive as an attempt to abstract astronomical bodies and systems into something analogous to life systems, although some of what goes on up there makes it a tempting line. it is super cool that stars can create new stuff! But we still can't explain from whence came all this potential energy (any better than teh big bang I mean). But yeah, there was plenty of rocky matter before the stars were formed, allegedly. Been a while since I been on that Hawking trip and can't quite support it as well as I would like to right here [You must be logged in to view images.
