The server seemed pretty stable when I was playing it. There's been a few tweaks just about every day for a few days now and people are just waiting for epics.
The biggest thing is this guy really needs to realize that he totally fucked up the itemization and custom content. You can spend a few hours farming Emerald Jungle for a piece of the "top tier" armor, or you can spend a few hours farming Unrest (which is much easier) for the plat to buy an uber donator item, which blows the EJ armor out of the water. That's when I started to lose interest in the server... after the 100th Unrest clear to get donator item #6 it just sort of became pointless. He also said the donator stuff would scale in content to always be the best items in the game... which means you'll never upgrade that slot, ever. Donate enough $$ or farm enough plat and you'll never need to upgrade an item slot ever again. Obviously terrible design.
Dude really needs to just scrap the entire donator gear idea entirely and retune the custom content. Currently it consists of people repopping zones over and over (because spawns aren't set to be static) until enough nameds pop, then it takes forever to actually kill the mobs because they have millions of HP.
I've been playing on THF the most lately. Has similar donator gear problems, but "normal" people can't obtain them so I can just go on blissfully ignorant of their existence.
Someone needs to make a quality custom server that isn't pay to win. Well, I guess Stormhaven did that but no one plays on that server even though it's amazing, so what do I know.

Yeah, I liked his class ideas but hated the way itemization is/was done. Back when I played we farmed Kael arena for hours for the drops to turn in for armor (from what I remember) but there were always items that you could just drop plat on in the hub that were far superior than the items you would spend hours trying to obtain, also the gear from the custom boss mobs (which isn't so bad, but they were unbelievably simple at the time) Add on that most items were just bland "across the board" upgrades for every class (so everyone was running around with the same items in each slot).
I stopped playing before the donor items all made it in, so I never got to see how it turned out, but seems to be much like how I imagined it would.
I think he just needs to go back and rework things from the ground up every so often so the game meshes better and has an actual progression flow and then continue on. Otherwise, when he gets toward the end, he's just going to have a huge pile of jumbled up mess.
Also, the amount of class weapons that had AE effects turned me off too, I remember planning to skip one of the ranger swords because it had an AE effect with a rather large radius, which = unintended aggro when you don't want to fight mass amount of mobs all at once (especially when you're trying to sneak thru with minimal fights to get to a certain area).
