I think it's an interesting idea. The high end of the server is too crowded, but the middle end isn't crowded enough. You don't want to cannibalize those unrest, crushbone, sola, solb groups.

I wonder if there's a way to help the high end without hurting the lowbie/middle end.

I would play on it, purely because I like to be able to kind of keep up with the curve a bit. And seeing as I only just started, I am waaaay behind most people. There's something a bit weird about seeing people wearing amazing Kunark gear while I'm still struggling to afford my level 12 spells. It sometimes makes me worry that by the time I reach the high end, most people will have quit.

Having said that, I think splitting the population between multiple servers would probably be a bad thing. The main thing that attracted me to p99 was that the server has a really good population. But I still have a really hard time finding people to play with because of my time zone. Usually when I play, even popular zones like Crushbone and Oasis are completely empty, or it's one or two other people. It's ok at the weekends because I can play in the evenings and stay up late, and it's really busy then. But I think if two servers split the people up, it could make it very empty when I play during the week.

Don't be so quick to jump to conclusions! I love EQ classic and I wouldn't want anything to change to the current server. I was only dreaming up changes I would like to see to an EQ custom server.

You see it wouldn't be WoW, as EQ promotes group play and community. I also think WoW did some things correct in the beginning. What I really disliked about EQ after Velious was the direction the aesthetics took. Mixed graphics, strange turn in theme, I also disliked the instant teleportation everywhere. Anyway, just day dreaming!

I don't know, I look at that list and I only see features that destroy group play and community much the way WoW did. What you just described is essentially every feature you see in MMOs today. Look at old republic: Increased HP/Mana regen out of combat, bind yourself in every city, easy to solo outdoor mobs, instancing, auctioneers, and talents to define your role. I grouped one time in that game, just because I happened to be right at the instance when a group needed one more. The other 49 levels, I soloed...very quickly....and I think I talked to maybe one other person while leveling.

EverQuest has such a great community because it's a pain in the ass to play it sometimes and you need people. It's one of the few games I can really tell the original developers said "lets make an interesting game" with little thought to balance. They picked classes and races they thought were interesting, defined roles in a traditional fantasy setting, and built a world for us to play in without much consideration for how hard or easy it would end up being and just said "Go for it". And it was great.

  • No ip exemptions
  • All magic items are no drop, you earn everything you wear.
  • Vendors do not sell any food, armor, weapons. You buy those things from people doing those tradeskills or make them yourself. Make tradeskills more viable.
  • Remove common language. Kind of like the Firiona Vie server. Have to learn to speak each race's language if you want to understand them.
  • Race/Class exp bonus/penalty removed
  • All weapons proc at level 1. If your guild decides to raid Blackburrow at level 5 and a Gnoll Hide Lariat drops, it should proc!
  • Damage cap removed, for the same reason as above. If you happen to loot a high damaging weapon at level 1, it should do whatever damage it is capable of.
  • All classes can Bind, don't know if this is possible. Having to get a bind as a melee adds zero fun. Having to go bind someone as a caster adds zero fun.
