As much as you'd like to imagine violence on me, it never happened. I was the Rockefeller of piracy back when CD burners first came out (spent my first $200 on one). I banked on kids at school, and used their money to get high and play EQ. Nice try tho.

Eq reached its highest sub number during pop. Eq "failed" for a variety of reasons and it indeed happened with the release of gates of discord. PoP had already alienated many of the casual players with multiple locked zones, raid only zoned, increasing grind, etc, and gates compounded this 10x by having almost no casual doable content. How many non raiders were able to break into kodtaz in the first couple of months? It was a complete raider only expansion that offered nothing for casuals whereas meanwhile world of Warcraft was released that catered to these very same people.

i like your theory heartbrand but,
people are even more simple than you put it. 1. wow was popular because it was prettier at the time , not many people can look at eq 1 without going blind. 2. the controls and point and click quests were much simpler on wow, learning curve was like 5 seconds. Had little to do with content added on eq.

Yes, the interface was 10x more user friendly than EQ. It helped, but what really allowed WoW to take off was the fact that it opened up Online games to people who only had a few hours a night to play. EQ had ALWAYS taken the route of, they want you to invest heavily into the levelign grind. WoW took it a step further, and said we want people to grind at max level, not getting there. Opened up games to a HUGE playerbase that EQ completely ignored. And when you have additional friends playing WoW that may not have played EQ... you are going to play the game they play. No one likes a single player existance in a MMO.... wait a second... oh, whew, red99 playerbase is at 8.

Everyone is entitled to play whatever game they enjoy, but I truly do not understand those who are here for nostalgia, at least on the red server. There is no population, every zone is a ghost land, there is no economy, no lists for groups, no PVP, etc. This was not the EQ I remember. Obviously this is an emulated server and of course the pop levels aren't going to rival that of EQ in it's prime, but it's not even half or a quarter of it, we have 15-20 people on this server. That's how many people were on the fucking waiting list for frenzy on a bluebie server back in the day lol.

Theres nothing good about this server. No one should ever join this server again. Those of you who haven't left, should. Lets just forget what happened on r99!
