I'm waiting for EQ Next personally. However, grad school and a full time job suck the time away so for the next seven months no game can pull me in.

Maybe third time's a charm? So far everything from SOE after EverQuest has been a failure.

(That also includes Brad McQuaid and Jeff Butler's attempt at creating the next spiritual successor with Vanguard)

Guess I'm not a 'true' gamer then. Wonder what I've been doing the last 30 years....

Didn't like #1, never even saw #2, and likely won't see #3.

Diablo 2 was really addicting. D3 will definitely be worth a try - although my computer sux and I really don't want to spend money upgrading it for D3, so I guess I'll wait till everyone else has already played it.

I've seen games hyped up enough through the years.

I'll never pre-order a game again.

Always do a trial on a game before you buy it... most end up being crap anyways.

no matter how good the reviews are (or how bad) just better to test first.

I got a bin full of games i've bought.. installed .. tried for a few hours.. then never played again lol.

and to people spouting off about beta's... no a beta isn't a free sneak preview of a game.. it's them trying to work out bugs.

however you can tell a game will be crappy if they don't actively respond to beta feedback and fix major flaws.

Every potential big-name game takes away from the population of P99, as will D3. This holds true for any MMORPG, though. D3 will take away population from WoW, EQ2, Rift, etc as well. Ultimately though, it will not seriously hurt P99's population.

Meh,
I'll be passing on it. I loved the original Diablo back in the day as it allowed me to play with three other friends in a Dungeons & Dragons type world. I played many a night into the wee hours of the morning. I once only got 45 minutes of sleep and dozed off at work during a server install.. I played the game with others as well and when I observed the rampant cheating, I gave up the game and moved on. I never really got back into Diablo. I played Diablo II for a while but Everquest became my obsession in 99 and I rarely played much else..

I think we'll see a dip in the numbers online but I don't think it will last. Many of us chose to play on P1999 for reasons that will not be filled by playing elsewhere (be it on the SOE EQ servers or the other easier and less true to classic servers on the EQEMU list). Those regulars here will be around for the long haul..
