I think part of the beauty of EQ pvp was the imbalance. Nowadays games strive so hard to create balance that classes are constantly wrecked and rebuilt to achieve something that may never exist. (Hence the flavor of the months syndrome, where every patch made a class more powerful then all the rest.)

For those who never played on classic pvp servers. Leveling was not easy, even as a cleric on tallon I probably soloed 70% of my way to 50. But when Kunark came out I had a guild and comrades I could trust and was able to group 100% to 60. Anyhow this is just meant to be a helpful reminder that classic EQ took a lot of patience and good judgement (pick your fights wisely). If your a melee make a lot of friends.

After a month of playing 5-8 hours a night. It dawned on me that I'm not really having that much fun. I've played the majority of PvP mmo's starting with Ultima Online, shadowbane, FPS shooters, Warcraft, Starcraft, and Dota clones.

Everquest PvP mechanics really suck. It's by far the single most imbalanced PvP game I've played. I'm not saying this cause I'm upset with my class or anything, in fact I think chanters are too good and probably need to be toned down here. PvP is BORING, there's very little variability in the skills or how you can use them on people.
EQ does not promote even fights. In my history of EQ > Playing on Sullon Zek for 4 years, and a few previous boxes to this one. I have NEVER seen an even matchup, or anything close to resembling a fair engagement. Out literally thousands of fights someone is either low on health, the groups are uneven, there's a mob agro'd on them when you engage, OOR healers, trains, zoneline disconnects.

I WANT a challenging encounter. DAOC comes to mind if anyone has ever played it PvPers respected each other and enjoyed even fair fights, so much so that if there was a 8 vs 8 fight going on, and some random people walk up and attack, the groups would disengage from each other, kill the randoms, and then restart the fight.

Not sure what I can ask for or expect. What I thought would be cool was a EQ server in a classic setting, but balance the chars for PvP. Which wont happen ever, so I'll look for something else maybe.
Exp bonus wouldnt hurt either, I'm near 50, but I feel really bad for people and see them quitting too because they find time to spend 3 hours grinding, and make 1 blue of exp.
DAoC gogogogo.
Midgard! Come wiff me if you want tooo live. Okay actually you are better siding with Hibs. Everyone from here is on Hib, and Hib outpopulates Mid almost 2 to 1, and have all STR relics.

One thing you will learn about the VZ/TZ emu community, they cry with the best of them, until they threaten to leave because they don't get what they want. On VZ/TZ emu the GMs basically caved to their every bitch. If there was one reason I don't play eq pvp anymore it would have to be because of them (the community), not because of game mechanics or how "hard" it is to level. It's probably just me getting old and not wanting to deal with a little kid's mentality.

EQ pvp is actually the most enjoyable pvp I've had in a game. Not because its has a diverse array of skills and spells on every class, but because pvp in EQ is 10x as meaningful as any other PVP game I've played (all of them). Like nirgon and fireapple said, its about governing the game, fighting over the right to progress.

Also, know that Kunark is where the classes get much more balanced out. Until then, melee really have it rough. Hopefully they will fix resists and add melee knockback interrupts and all classes can get in on the action. After kunark, I don't think theres another more "balanced" pvp game out there. Every class has their benefits if you know how to take advantage of them.

i know where ur coming from man...

theres just not enuff ppl playing right now.

and the few who still play here are mostly assholes. look at the forums lol, they bitch n complain bout everything. its these kinda boners who chased alota the noobs out.

and besides the population problem, idk wtf is up wit the pvp.
seems majority of the pvp action is people waiting til ur low hp or fighting a mob.
and the few legit battles that take place, usually end in some1 pluggin.

it also sucks wanting to kill people when you know those same people will b in the zone with you tomorow... so do you want to kill every1? or join their group? =\
i use to havea low lvl ranger to kill people with when i didnt feel like leveling up my main..
ended up sellin em cause there simply no1 around To kill.

i think wer all jus hoping that Eventually, people will join this server again and it will b like it was at launch... >.>
although many seem to say that theres enuff ppl here alrdy and that 200 is more than enuff because it was the same as box.

idk to me 200 jus isint enough. killing the same handful of people over n over again is weak. wats the point in progressing if its just these douches lol.
its hard to dedicate time to a server full of fags.

i miss sullon zek...

rip

200 on during non work/school hours is plenty for classic. There's already 4-5 people in every non newbie zone and around 10 people in all the mid to high level areas. As people start getting into the higher levels they will be forced to go to the only end game zones and more conflicts will ensue. That being said, more people would mean more conflict which would be better.

I have 50s in every realm, if you guys make it up there, I'll tag along.
Uthgard is shit though IMO for lots of balance issues that they can't fix because they have no staff. RvR is set in classic age with NF RAs which automatically makes some classes OP especially at high RR.

It's brutal trying to RR10-11 people at RR4 (which is all you cAn get to in the BG)

I've been playing daoc live. There are 30-80 people in every realm on in Thidranki (24 bg) and Molvik (39 bg)
good thing is these BGs also avoid most of the MLs and Artifacts which ruined daoc 50 pvp.

Daoc live is full of stealthers in NF that just insta shot everyone.

Battlegrounds may be fun, but RvR frontiers is where it's at.
