Final Fantasy Tactics has to be my favorite. Awesome replay value.

FFT was pretty easy, I can't say I didn't have fun flaring the shit out of the entire field with my maxed out calculator... No replay value though.
That's crazy talk. The "anyone can be anything" party system allows you to replay with different class combinations or even put self-imposed restrictions on yourself (like the solo challenge, the pure class challenges, etc.). Even FF7 has more strict class structure than FFT. Yes, FFT may not have all of the extra side stuff to do of some of the other Final Fantasies, but its a great plot and the class system adds an amazing amount of replay value.

I think what I disliked most about FF7 is that it started the whole "every character can have the same abilities as everyone else" that really destroyed individuality besides weapons and limit breaks. FF10 and FF12 had these systems too, but at least FF7 didn't have a complete shit storyline and cast of characters like those games.

RPG gameplay is pretty damn basic, the only thing that you really have control over to give you an edge is character customization. This is why games like FF1, FF3j, and FF5 didn't have to have super compelling storylines; they were fun because you could play them over and over with different class combinations.

Then you have games like FF4j and FF6j, where each character is "locked in to" a specific class. This worked for these games because they were driven by the storyline and characters. If you were able to turn Terra into a Berserker, the game wouldn't make much sense.

Unfortunately now we're given Final Fantasy titles devoid of character customization, interesting plotlines, or interesting characters. Buying a Final Fantasy game since 9 (the last good one) is like getting on a bullet train and flying straight into a pile of liquid shit.

I liked FF12 up until i no longer had to do anything but move my characters around. They were unbeatable. I literally drove them around and owned every fucking thing in the game.

I enjoyed FF12 through about the first 60% or so, even though the characters were always terrible. Even their names were generic... Vaan, Ashe, Fran... although I guess that's a good thing since I never would have remembered them if they were more than 4 letters.

Anyways, the biggest problem is that FF12 pretends to have a storyline throughout the whole thing when it really doesn't. It borrows tons of references from Final Fantasy Tactics, a game with great characters and plot, and tries to fool you into thinking it'll develop in an interesting manner like FFT.

Final Fantasy 12 was the only game I've ever played that I didn't realize I had just defeated the final boss. This should be testament enough to how terrible it is.

You think there's a storyline there, and you think it's getting interesting, but nothing is ever expanded on or explained, not even in the ending. Matter of fact, the ending is the worst piece of "and they all lived happily ever after" bullshit I've ever seen. Like, the game was never about the characters, everything revolved around political intrigue and those god-like things at the end. Yet when you beat the game it's like oh hey, all these idiots you were forced to play for the past 40 hours are all happy they saved the world or something, actually they don't even know what they did because this game sucked so much.

Not to mention it had the worst "skill up" system of any RPG ever. The sphere grid was bad enough, and they stole that and bastardized it. The upgrades were all completely pointless except those uber abilities that allowed you to destroy any boss in the game. So obviously you went straight for those and didn't really give a shit about the rest since it was all you needed to beat the game.

Not to mention with the Gambit system, yeah, eventually the game just played itself for you and you watched. This just so happened to be the worst game to implement such a system, considering there was nothing worth watching. It's like the entire thing was designed to be a monumental waste of time.

I didn't go straight for them, I actually spent a ton of time in the game getting lost in the the crystal maze, whatever the fuck (which is harder than the rest of the game). I ran around in there trying to kill the hidden bosses, familiarize the maze and find goodies. I only later realized that the skills i got while in there and the gambit setup i used for it would allow me to just rape everything after it.

The story was meh. I when I got out of the maze finally I stopped playing for a few months. When I finally just seen it and figured, what the hell, I picked it up, put it in, boarded the ship and then beat the game like 5mins later.

FF7 was good, but it's just a band wagon... Saying you like it is like is just another cliche "old school" gamer thing to do.

Pretty sure anyone who thinks FF8 is bad probably never figured out how to use the GF junction system. I wouldn't say 8 is BETTER than 7, but it was definitely a lot more fun. I played 7 so many times before 8 came out and never got past disc 2 before just getting bored of it.

The music was better in 8, most of the characters were better in 8, graphics were of course better in 8. The card game was awesome.

FFX was fun, but the characters made awful. I think had FFX released on PS1 with PS1 graphics, it would have flopped. The only reason I liked it was because of how good it looked when PS2 first came out... But it was the easiest FF game I've played. Like 35 hours of gameplay time my first completion.

Someone mentioned Crystal Chronicles... That game was awful, probably because it was for Gamecube, or maybe because it was nothing like other FF games, and I expected it to be. The multiplayer version of the game looked like fun.

And a a less popular MMO that I thought rocked was Skies of Arcadia Legends. It sucked because it was on the Gamecube, other than that it was awesome. Started off a bit slow, like most RPGs do... and some of the characters were.. stupid, but it's a reaaally long MMO with a lot of additional side questing to do. Pretty sure my played time was like 120 hours on it or something.
