Already went through this with pot. I’ve had my medical card for like 8+ years now, and pot’s legal where I live

And yet, every time I go to the goddamn pot store I have to take cash out of the atm (with a $2.50 withdrawal fee) like I’m buying hard drugs from my old connects. I want to tell the people at the pot shop “yknow if you really want to make this feel like a drug deal, then you should also make me wait for 2 hours at a gas station and sometimes collect the cash, say you’re going to go get the stuff, and then ghost me” (all stuff that’s happened to me back in the day)

But really, it’s being done because card companies or banks refuse to allow their cards to be used for pot, even in places where it’s fucking legal. Which is ridiculous

Weed is still federally schedule 1. It is not 'fucking legal' in any cognizable sense.

Which is why as someone in the industry told me dispensaries in states that allow and regulate the sale of cannabis will usually only take cash because they fear their profits being seized by legal fiat and so there is uncertainty there and risk they prefer to avoid which I understand. I think ∆9-THC is used by many people to self-medicate (I was one) for various reasons and to various degrees and success. But other cannibinoids like CBD, CBN, CBG, ∆8-THC and others do not require ∆9-THC in their manufacture and thus are federally legal (currently) under the U.S. Farm Bill. Not only did I stop using ∆9-THC in any quantity or form once I discovered these other cannibinoids, but I wonder if I would have used cannabis flower for the length of time that I did if the restrictions around researching a scheduled drug that prevented these natural cannibinoids from being identified and studied earlier weren't in place.

Given that there is always going to be a black market where there is demand for an illicit or banned good there is definitely a money and power angle to drug policy in the U.S. as well as a harm reduction angle.
