Why are people allowed to trade/sell characters if it's not for RL cash? That sort of thing is worse for the players than being able to purchase pp. Both should be bannable offenses.

It's sad seeing it happen, especially here on the official forums.
Not really. How does people being able to buy characters in exchange for plat negatively affect you or anyone?

I look at RMT for coin the same way, not sure how anyone can think otherwise.

Apply some thought to it. If you buy a character with plat, it means you actually had to get the plat in the first place, like by playing the game and getting enough plat to buy a character. If it were RMT, it would be "hey I got paid today, what's EQ? oh sounds fun I'll buy a level 60!"

MMOs, and especially EQ (imo) are community based and community driven games. It's not so much about the pixels as it is the people behind the pixels. People have reputations here, and they really matter. Or should :/

If I make a friend and spend months hanging out in game and getting to know them, it sucks when one day I /tell them to discover that no longer know me. Likewise, if at some point in my character's life I'm mercilessly harassed (CC'd for no reason, tracked down and PK'd in every zone I try to lns to, scammed for what few items I have..) by someone, I would like to always be able to dislike them for that reason. If I discovered that the character had been sold, and now my most hated enemy had become kind and friendly, I would be distraught.

Guess I'm something of a roleplayer sorta. Is that a wrong way to play this game? The powergamers who only care about raiding, gear and using said gear to PK the rest of us may not care if people sell characters, but I want something more from this game.

What's so bad about buying coin for rl cash if they allow people to purchase characters? All the coin farmers do is cause inflation, which happens anyway. Players like me will always be poor compared to people that spend their time farming and playing the market, so a little more inflation brought about by chinese sweatshops hardly makes a difference. imo ofc

I don't really dig this. It's like saying YOU want the person behind the character to always be the same, so that's how it should be. As if the fact that I spend all this time leveling up a character and then decide I want to play something else is irrelevant, because of YOUR expectations for that character.

I don't really care who digs what. People are gonna sell plat and characters no matter what; it's an unfortunate truth. Anyway, I leveled to 60 and got my epic on live, why can't I be GM pl'd to max and given my epic here? [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

And why are high level noobs such a big deal? Free kills in pvp IMO.

Because P99 and the other emulators ride the fine line/gray area of incroaching on Sony's intellectual rights. You could say it flies "under the radar" so-to-speak because no one is profiting real $$-wise from this.

Well other than the legal implications, the fact that you could have someone with zero clue how to play buying characters. I mean, that could still happen now, but it's less likely given that you need to farm up a shitload of plat to buy a decent character, which requires playing a lot, or receiving a generous gift.

I do hate the Chinese farmers though. I remember in vanilla WoW I used to spend hours in that little area south of Light's Hope in EPL griefing the 20 China farmer rogues that would always hang out there. After about 15 minutes you'd start getting tells like "ni hao.... you plz stop kill?" and I'd say "Okay, sorry!" then proceed to rape them some more. They'd try to gang up like 5 on you all at once and still DIAF because all they know how to do is farm gold. That was some fun shit right there.

I suppose I could feel like a dick since doing that could cost them their bowl of rice to eat for dinner, but fuck it, survival of the fittest and shit.

Not sure if anyone is familiar with the Mayong server on live (survived about a year). Players made a character, but all characters started at Level 51 and had 50 AAs to spend on starting.

If you entered a 51 group (usually Plane of Innovation or something) you'd see all sorts of crazy stuff... SKs who could FD but not work out how to stand up again, hardcore overnuking wizards, shammies that didn't know what their slow spell was.

... and that was just me! [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] (I jest)

Great server in its time, whispers of it getting shut down effectively dropped the population to such a low point that it actually got shut down. Was a good community at its peak though, if fickle [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
