Yeah man, why can't we just classify everyone under the same umbrella of "crippling, incapable" illness. I mean shit, it just makes sense to do so.
yes, i would call depression severe enough to lead to suicide a crippling illness, what the fuck would you call it?

Are you implying that depression is, in fact, "incurable?" (since we're calling it a disease)
definitely not incurable, but after some of the bitterness and hatred spewed in this thread you can't see why someone would sooner choose to bottle it up rather than face such patronization?

You're missing the point here. Way over your head, obviously. Depression isn't full blown monkey saliva AIDS. It's not a sealed deal like, "Oh shit he's depressed, this one is either going to medicate in a Dairy Queen Blizzard or put a bullet in his grapefruit."

It's like saying the common cold is severe enough to lead to death. Sure, any fucking thing is possible, genius.

haha what? you're the one completely missing the point, maybe you need to reread my post you quoted or something. you were all talking about people who committed suicide. in these cases, their depression or what have you was obviously severe and crippling.

i don't ever remember saying everyone who has depression will put a bullet in their grapefruit, if you could point it out to me that would be swell.

For some it is, though not a disease but genetic; those that deal with it all the time. Thing is, everyone gets bouts of depression at one time or another, often due to chemical imbalance or just learning to deal with situations. Any person here is potentially at some point on a doctors prescription recommendation and labeled as having some incurable lifelong disease (~98% misdiagnosis). Meds are highly over prescribed and they are dangerous with their horrid side effects that alter the mind for everyone differently (which can cause suicidal thoughts). In most cases, it's simply about proper diet and exercise for the fix. But meds are big business, and telling someone to at least just get out and get fresh air is anti-productive for the industry.

To someone that hasn't seen nor felt the effects of severe depression, it's fairly easy to patronize another human being over this invisible illness. Despite this being an anonymous medium for communication, the fact that there is very little compassion here speaks enormously to the character of the inhabitants of this forum.

It's quite possible that this person was ashamed of the way he felt in the early stages of his depression. It gets to the point where it's difficult to get out of bed or complete mundane tasks that normal individuals don't think a second about on a daily basis. To say that he should have "seized his opportunities, bucked up and worked through it" is pretty laughable. If he had the same opportunities as you or I, I guess he wouldn't have gotten to the point in which he was so chemically imbalanced that he'd convince himself that ending his own life was a better alternative than waking up every day to relive the same nightmare.

I've seen loved ones and close friends go through varying stages of depression, and it's not as trivial as you people seem to pass it off as being. Though I'm not sure why I'm arguing this point with people who are obviously not quite normalized themselves, evident by the need to degrade someone that's committed suicide for comic relief and/or validation to their own lives.

After reading all the posts in here i am still confused, i thought some hippie named jesus died for our sins?

http://www.visionandpsychosis.net/Ev...connection.htm

Don't know how true it is, but games don't kill people. Just my opinion. I have been pretty depressed before myself but suicide.... c'mon.
