What the fuck is the matter with making 30k a year? I make 45k a year, and I am satisfied, sure I wish I made millions instead just to buy w/e the hell I want. But it doesn't hurt my pride making what I make. I love doing what I do, sure I can move on to a more "promising" career, however I wouldn't like doing what I love.

I am sure a lot of the cops might be assholes, but theres some who are fucking awesome.

I have had a few negative experiences with the police, and they have signficantly altered my perception on police in general.

There is a huge problem when people feel extremely uncomfortable around police, rather than extremely safe. I always heard that the screening process to become an officer is very thorough, but I am starting to doubt that more and more.

Sure, there are good police, but until proven otherwise I am going to assume that any cop is a jerk without a single compassionate bone in his body, just like I'm sure he will assume I'm a little deviant just waiting to commit my next infraction.

You'd be correct. As long as you can read, write, and ain't afraid to fight, you can get on the force. Not being kick out of the military for being a pussy also helps.
