I thought it would be cool to be able to acquire secondary races, like becoming a zombie, werewolf, vampire or space marine (okay, maybe not an augmented post-human sci fi super-soldier).

What are the practical considerations for adding a race? Does it need to be something that is already in global load files? What about displaying armour? Might be a bit strange if cloth looks like skeleton, leather like zombie and chain like mummy!

Also, what about UI files, won't the character creation screen need editing?

Don't believe you can add races without modifying the client. I know this is true for classes. You can tweak/modify existing ones, but cannot add without changing client.

If it were to be implemented it would have to be done via quest/transformation in game.

I like the idea of expanded "classic" content, instead of made up crap.

I think you could probably replace Froglok and Vah Shir in the the character creator slots with a custom race. I doubt you'd have to modify the client. Class wise, there's no way in hell I'd be okay with a custom class. However, a slightly tweaked race with a classic model would be fun to mess around with. After all, that is what Iksar were when Kunark came out to classic EQ players.

I voted Aviaks along with the Archer class, basically an all ranged support class that only shot arrows and would be a modified warrior, but Centaur and Chetari both sound promising as races. Centaur would be fun and I don't think giving them a speed boost would make running any less scary, considering SOW already does that. It would just make pulling without sow much less tedious for an all day tank.

If Vah Shir had a classic model they'd be better, like the Kerrans.

As a matter of fact, Vah Shir on live have a low polygon model that shows when you disable Luclin models. They added this long after Luclin came out, though. The models look like Vah Shir, but they're strangely attenuated.
