I can afford it and I am looking for a game to buy.

I'm eyeing DS3, Overwatch, and The Division...well that's it I guess.

I just have serious concerns about gimmicks based on the way Overwatch was marketed. Its art style is a little more gimmicky than WoW/Leagues and certainly DOTA. I am also not a huge fan of corporate Blizzard, as their track record is dogshit since the merge. SC2 is a terrible game, and D3 robbed so many people blind.

I'm afraid this is somehow reflected in the gameplay but so far the reviews of the gameplay are "ok" but not stellar. I am guessing its a decent enough game for casuals or Blizzard wouldn't have greenlit it and spent so much money on it, BUT can it sustain extreme competitive play like Team Fortress 2 can? Y/N.

IRYD chime in on what games out of the 3 listed above you own.
Haven't played division or DS3 so I can't comment on any comparisons to them.

All I can say is that it's held my attention for 6+ months already and I'm still having fun with it.

we played the "throw tornados into a wall" Diablo 3 patch

wasn't as bad as the "do algebra to figure out turret break points" demon hunter patch with invincible monks

Blizzard games: never again

They try to homogenize and simplify everything down to the point you'd think nothing could be retarded or imbalanced, but still it happens and is the case... with a big generous helping of bland McDonald's quality crap mechanics that just aren't even interesting. Their shit is geared for casuals, period and the "elite content" they try to shoe horn in is just bland icing on top of a shit cake.

Check out Paragon like some grown ass men why don't yawl?

Those games are all quite different. So it really depends on what you're looking for in a game.

I will say Overwatch is going to be widely successful and anyone that thinks otherwise is kidding themselves with some weird form of blind Blizzard hatred. It's a video game company, get over it. Also, anyone who hates Blizzard might actually have down syndrome.

Couple things about Overwatch:

No, it probably isn't worth $60 because a game like Secret Ponchos (Free on PSN @ one point and $20 from the tiny indie company that made it) was equally fun and had ALMOST as much depth. It just had less maps and characters to choose from than Overwatch. Same type of game, one isometric, one not. Does any of this matter? No, not really but this is a great example of how brilliant Blizzard is at creating a self sustaining economy for a game.

Here is what will happen. They will release DLC across all platforms (in about 6-12 months if not sooner) in the form of characters and maps. That's probably it and honestly that's probably all they will need to keep this game successful. Being a matchmaking game allows them to keep costs down by having minimal dev maintenance and keeps the customer base somewhat pleased with constant new content.

The game itself...is fairly badass. It has some MOBA-quality-style-teamwork, in that synergy is highly important yet it has the feel of a gritty-arena-FPS. I imagine I will burn out much faster than any MMO I have ever played purely because this is just a casual game. It may end being an e-sport, sure, but this is not a game that has any sort of progression and the gratification is instant.

Glad I spent money on it and well aware we all overpaid but it's a fun ass game with how plagued the MMO scene is right now.

Isn't that okay, though?

There is a place in the market for developers like Blizzard that make casual-friendly games. And there is a place for developers like Fromsoft that make games like Dark Souls. Both of these things can co-exist.

I don't play HoTS because I like when MOBAs require a lot of mechanical skill and are highly competitive, so I play DoTA instead. But Blizzard's casual-friendly approach works great for me on Overwatch because I suck at fps' and the game has interesting content, runs smoothly, and is fun to play.

yes this is my personal bias

my desire for depth and beardery does not apply to all

if you like it, fine with me and I won't attack

D3 and WoW Pandaria really left a bad taste in my mouth... Legacy of the Void was OK, didn't play very much multiplayer as I burned out on doing that in the initial launch and following expac, with very little for me there in terms of buying value as far as multiplayer

I obviously fantasize about being molested by the initial learning curve of Dark Souls 3 again

Check out Paragon tho

Its already a Esport. There are tourneys being held and leagues being run for it already and it hasnt even gotten its competitive feature yet.

Why would you allow yourself to miss out on such a fun game? love this game; although i do say it is geared towards the long term players over newbies because the long term players have more cards. even with that said; i highly recommend you give this a shot.

And it works on your phone!!

Oh really? I thought it was just being tossed around.

That's awesome, didn't think they had held any tourney's yet.
