Not quite. Caloric expenditure is a function of oxygen consumption. Running is less efficient than walking in that it consumes more oxygen than say walking to move the same mass the same distance. On average running burns 30-50% more calories than walking does. Mass also plays a role in the number of calories burnt in a given exercise. That is why men tend to burn more calories on average (around 20%) than women (the 100/hr figure that you shared) A mass of just 15% or so above average would yield the shared results.
Must be why they ask how much you weigh before you begin running. I always wondered. Brilliant.

It was 100 per mile distance not per hour.

And yes your weight does play a role. 100 cal/mile is a reasonable average estimate. A small woman is going to burn less (ie less than 100 calories a mile) than an obese 6'3" man (more than 100 calories a mile).

At the end of the day, the estimated 'calorie burn' by exercise equipment is always grossly exaggerated.

Yeah, I got that it was per mile. The /hr was just out of habit (I deal with units/hr too much). You're good, don't worry.

It's pretty substantial too especially given a standard deviation of around 20% and a normal distribution. At 14km/hr for example it's around 3.5 more per kg of mass. Height plays a role too. The 100/mile number would apply to a 6' tall 140lb male. It's the reason many machines ask for your height/weight ^^

Definitely, but as long as you're improving what you're doing on the equipment that's a real gain and no machine stats gonna mess that up [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I aim for 1000 a session as the machines tell me but I'm sure it's 10-20% over what I've actually burnt.

Burnt 1100 calories at the gym just now, was a good session.

Running: 515 (30 minutes @ 12.4km/h), pissed that I didn't make it to 35 mins.
Cycling: 250 (30 minutes, intervals, level 4)
Cross trainer: 285
Walking to finish: 50

Also, had my first ranked game of LoL in season 6 and won it. Ended up as support Nautilus at the ADCs request (he wanted Blitzcrank but I'm no fan) and it was a fun game. Better as Nami/Sona but seems the tanky supports are popular if people aren't playing Thresh.

Trying to get my blue server enchanter into the 50s this week, prepare to be dazzled [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Maybe I'll stream something...
Swish, please just come play Dota2 with me. Also, thank you for coming back to the forums. =-)

there's a squeak in my shoe, does anyone have any tips on how to get rid of it? like where you walk and with each step when your foot strikes it makes a noise.

everyone tells me you can find out anything on the internet

I'd just take my shoes off.

Then again, I stepped on a tack yesterday so tread at your own risk?

oh also I missed a gym session, bossed 12.4km/h @ 35 mins the last time so I'm going to try 12.6km/h tonight.

I'm thinking once I can tackle 13k per hour at 35 minutes I'll start extending to 40 mins, 45 etc.

Spent previous week learning vmware. Spent today at work creating image for testing and deployment. Read forums during downtime.

End day by posting on rnf. Tomorrow's goal: test image. More forums. Possible elfsim.
