By dint of the way mana calculations work:

At level 50, every point under 200 = 12 mana per 1 wis. Every point over 200 up to 255, 6 mana per 1 wis. So if you're a high elf (like many clerics are), once you break 200 wisdom, you are frequently going to be better off with +mana gear/+hp gear (Black sapphire) then more +wisdom.

This got changed during Velious and then again during Planes of Power. Not sure what the exact changes were. I asked in OOC and they said the mana calculations should be correct.

I was under the impression that during classic, any int/wis above 200 was on a 1 to 1 ratio. Are you certain that the 6 to 1 ratio was classic?

12 to 1 under 200 at 50, 6 to 1 over 200 at 50. Definitely for clerics. I'll try to dig up some ancient EQ clerics posts later.

The first is from 2000, the second from 2002.

So I was wrong; the 6 mana from 200-255 was after Kunark.

Am I off or is this wrong though? My INT is at 198, if I removed a piece that adds 15 INT it drops my mana by 143 - from my testing in game at 50 a point of intelligence is worth like 9.5 mana, much less than the 12 you guys are talking about here.

For druid chest another alternative is Erudehide Tunic; It's very easy to obtain. The treant is up all the time in EK.

Paladin Shields: Aegis of life(quest), Cracked Darkwood, Charred Guardian, or Crested Mistmoore(best option overall IMO +10svs rocks)

I'm curious about the grotesque mask idea.

You can get the

+7 str, +7 wis mask or
the +9 dex, +9 cha mask

from jewelcraft

I know it's +3 AC but is there any other reason why Grotesque mask would be preferred over either of those?
