Experience mechanics are explained pretty clearly on the wiki, but based on this thread, no one has read it.

So experience is more important than the social aspect of the game, maintaining good relationships with the community and its players, and not being a dick to people because of their choice of class?

ROFL, I love how this discussion was originally about, "Who cares what's the most hyper-efficient?! Play what you like and just have fun!"

to

"Ranger can be completely viable given that they uphold 16.666~% of the groups overall damage output which is completely feasible in the circumstance that they are the only ones in the group capable of putting a damage shield on the tank. The versatility of their crowd control and out-of-combat healing makes up for the difference that you would otherwise get with a monk with SoS and any haste above 21%."

Missing the point. You don't have to be the best. Have fun killing stuff and having the "WoW is so easy lololol" conversation for the 2384.94387 * 10^29th time with your group mates.

Frankly, the wiki page favors the "elitist xp hogs." The idea is that you group with hybrids that have gained a similar amount of xp, but only hybrids who are X levels behind you will fit in to that criteria. So if you group with a hybrid who is that far behind you in actual levels, they probably wont even be able to land spells on the mobs you're fighting, which is supposed to be the main draw of hybrids. So basically that argument doesn't work if you're trying to debate them being efficient.

This all comes down to whether you want to level up quickly, or whether you want to enjoy the company of everyone on the way to the top, and not just the efficient levelers. Thankfully, when Velious comes around you wont have to make that choice.

Why do I feel like people are still going to avoid Rangers in Velious just because other classes can do specific roles better, even with the removal of the EXP penalty?

People will invite a non-hybrid class that is 5 levels higher than the rest of the group with nary an eye batted, but mention inviting a hybrid that is the same level as everyone else and the exp sponge complaints come pouring in. The misinformation perpetuates itself.

This thread is getting crazy about the Hybrid Penalty. Hardly anyone on here even gives a thought about it when they need someone in a group. If a Iksar SK shows up and you NEED a tank you know damned well he is going to get invited.

The Ranger will pull and the SK will tank. The SK will hate the Ranger for taking agro half the time but hey it works. And you will get tons of kills and that is what a group is all about. [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

I thought players were supposed to play what they wanted to play.
If there's something so holy about people playing what they want to, then why is it a problem that some people want to play something ideal?
