![]() Hi, I play a Half-Elf Bard named Sarajo.
Avatar is from my favorite moment in The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya. Long story short: That's the titular character singing in some kind of bunny cabaret outfit thing. I figured it was bardic thing because she's a [SPOILER] and she sings and plays guitar. Sarajo is actually a name I stole from one of my old students, because I see half-elves as rednecks and this was the 5th or so name I tried and it went through. It's pronounced more SAra-JOOOOOO than "sa-da-ho". Wa-dee-tah. (No signature; I don't believe in them unless they're all .img, because the text ones clog up google results with unnecessary words)

![]() Well, back in the early 1960s, the BBC had a new head of television programming by the name of Sydney Newman who wanted a new type of show to educate children, and do so through science fiction/time travel themes. He proposed the basic idea of a television show, but demanded that there be no stereotypical "bug eyed aliens" that had been so prominent in the science fiction genre.
Hiring Verity Lambert to take over the job, she organized and coordinated the creation of a television show with lackluster creation conditions, limited budgeting, and a weak staff. Nevertheless, she managed to pull together a good crew, and convinced William Hartnell, a man with shattered dreams of a career that could have been that was instead wasted away on war film after war film, to join the show. With him involved as the main character, they set about to make the show. At first the show seemed cursed, as the day before the show premiered, John F. Kennedy was assassinated. After limited views, the first episode was rerun the following week with the second episode, and after a week of virtually non-stop coverage of the JFK assassination, the viewer base of the BBC by and large turned to watch Doctor Who, a show which gained a huge following very quickly. It redeemed William Hartnell's career, becoming the defining aspect of his body of work, and he lived and died following that as a far happier and better human being. My avatar is his character, The First Doctor. Always tricky, clever, impish, grumpy old know it all (including a number of "Hartnellisms", lines he messed up due to age, but are quite comedic), but one with such a charisma that he set the stage for the longest running science fiction show in history. Whether you like the show or not, you should know who William Hartnell is, just as you should know Douglas Adams, Isaac Asimov, and Gene Roddenberry (clearly not an exhaustive list). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NoxQKGDPtoo Interesting side note for Doctor Who fans, the ring worn by William Hartnell in my screenshot is the same prop worn by Donna Noble throughout Season 4 of the 2005 part of the show.

![]() avatar: Darkstar Skate logo, added my name underneath using MS paint, painstakingly making the letters appear jaded like the rest of the image
sig: wrote my name in barcode, (I manage 100+ Motorola handheld computers), combined with the best quote regarding anarchism that I have seen.
