I think all the fundamental nerd arenas have the same level of sperglord tbh
Go to an MTG tournament, warhammer fantasy tabletop convention, big dnd get together... the only difference is the age of the players usually. The only truly annoying thing about them (besides the smells) is the overly immersed, my way or the highway attitude that a shit ton of them have.

There is one thing prevalent in Magic that used to drive me kind of nuts, but I ran into it again in EQ and WoW. The bad theorycrafters. They want to sit and patiently explain how they should have won based on ridiculous luck. They then continue to play bad cards and make bad plays. That was a constant theme on Sullon Zek, too--the hate tells about how lucky I was. So dumb.

i made someone quit playing coz i took his nether void .. the irony of which is that it wasn't any fun without him and i quit playing very soon after.

also, things like "control decks" didn't really exist at the time .. the closest you came was blue heavy counter decks with 4 Tims.
