In my experience Magic the Gathering tops the sperglord chart.

Magic is more than tournaments. Magic is more than winning individual games. Magic is more than finding the shortest route to victory.
Magic as a community in general might not be, but as a game it certainly is.

Alawen, at first I was confused by your comment about you enjoying the parts about magic players that piss me off, however you've since made it clear that you're another one of those players that can only enjoy the game by winning. Only focused on the "best play" and not having fun by actually playing the game.

There's a reason I switched almost exclusively to playing Commander (EDH) where every game results in multiple ridiculous board states with at least one interaction that you've never encountered before.
Haha, I understand your whole rant now. We didn't play the same game at all.

I think all the fundamental nerd arenas have the same level of sperglord tbh

Go to an MTG tournament, warhammer fantasy tabletop convention, big dnd get together... the only difference is the age of the players usually.

The only truly annoying thing about them (besides the smells) is the overly immersed, my way or the highway attitude that a shit ton of them have.

I don't mean to lump you with the worst of them either, you at least understand 'to each their own'. The seprglords look at someone playing a game 'for fun' and will point out that they aren't playing the game correctly, or to quote Tiggles that they are "Casual garbage" or in other cases claim that they aren't playing Magic at all. Fun never even enters the fucking equation with these guys.

There is one thing prevalent in Magic that used to drive me kind of nuts, but I ran into it again in EQ and WoW. The bad theorycrafters. They want to sit and patiently explain how they should have won based on ridiculous luck. They then continue to play bad cards and make bad plays. That was a constant theme on Sullon Zek, too--the hate tells about how lucky I was. So dumb.

I like it when they're actually good at it. My knowledge of statistic isn't usually strong enough to contribute but I think it's fun to read or listen to from smart people. It couldn't be worse when it's dumb people. Sam Deathwalker might be the ultimate bad theorycrafter.

also, things like "control decks" didn't really exist at the time .. the closest you came was blue heavy counter decks with 4 Tims.
