BTW, for those that aren't aware, there already was a Dragonlance movie. It was animated, and had great voice work (eg. Kiefer Sutherland played Raistlin) ... but it was animated poorly and failed commercially.

Im indifferent to the idea as ive gotten older. Outside of LOTR movies I havent seen many positive examples from this genre. Rings of power was pretty bad except for sauron in season 2. Ill plod through season 3 im sure.
Yeah there isn't any really, it's LOTR and a couple cartoons that take the genre seriously

for me it's
LOTR
Record of Lodoss War

then just books.

and Lodoss War doesn't hold up as well as i remember it but it's pretty faithful to it's source material whitch was a DnD campaign that was turned into some books/comics then a cartoon.

Quote:
Record of Lodoss War is based on Dungeons & Dragons 1st Edition, using the Red Box D&D rules from 1977 for the original magazine "replays" and a modified D&D campaign played by the creators, Ryo Mizuno and Group SNE. The series began as actual play reports published in the magazine Comptiq before being adapted into light novels

He was cut from the most recent D&D movie; he was supposed to be in it for a cameo or something. I remember Salvatore talking in an interview at some point about how Paramount had a TV show idea in early pre-production that was canceled years prior iirc.

An Icewind Dale trilogy with the production value of LOTR, and then Jarlaxle teased in the post-credit scene setting up the prequel DE trilogy, would have been pretty fucking sweet.

We'll never get it though.
to this day i have no clue who jarlaxle is.... i read a lot of wulfgar and drizzt stuff, like i know who artemis entreri is, know who cadderleigh and danica are (i assume danica was the inspiration for eq monks but i really dunno, but they definitely wasnt celibate, i do know that lol). i always joke irl when i see someone with a pet squirrel that its percival, but of course no one has any clue what im talking about. still though, never come across jarlaxle, even though i knew a dark elf cleric on my server who was named that.

i actually think theres a strong chance i played on the same server as salvatore because i remember him getting in trouble for copy right for having a character named drizzt or something and then having verant (or was it soe?) back off after he called them on the support line.

watching interviews with him now because i had no idea he even did these, or what he looked like irl. but have enjoyed a lot of books he's written over the years (even some star wars stuff lol)

had no idea this thread went into D&D and Dragonlance territory!! I haven't read the Chronicles and Legends in a few years, gotta remedy that.

It was such a let down all those years ago when it was announced that GoT was getting a TV show, of all the fantasy novels to that deserved a TV series it was DL [You must be logged in to view images. Jarlaxe doesn't show up till the dark elf trilogy and later books, he's the leader of and where Bregan D'aerthe p99 guild name came from

and i'm like 99% sure Salvatore was inspired by Sean Connery in Highlander 2 for Jarlaxle's getup

Quote:
He chooses the brightest colors for his clothes and wears a cape that shines in every color in both the visible and infrared spectrums. Jarlaxle commonly wears high boots and bracelets that can be made to be loud or silent at his discretion. He also wears a magical eye patch that protects his mind from magical and psionic intrusions and allows him to see through walls and other solid objects. He often shifts the patch from eye to eye to keep others guessing as to its powers. Another staple item is his wide-brimmed hat, plumed with a diatryma feather

Wow RecondoJoe, you were so traumatized by her that you blocked her from your memory?

Was that like a conscious effort (a la Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless mind) or do you think it was more of a subconcious thing?
