smaller flares just cause crazy auroras for a few minutes or hours

bigger solar flares like the ones that would roast our tech last for hours or days even. think of a desktop globe spinning and you shine a flashlight at it for 10 or 60 seconds, its gonna rotate in the beam of light like a rotisserie chicken.

carrington event is estimated to be in between there, as ppl didn't get roasted so it was like a small-medium flare, these things happen all the time we're just fortunate that it occurs in 3 dimensions which makes the likelihood rare, imagine tryin to hit a dart board while you are inside a rotating sphere that is rolling and pitching

gamma ray bursts same thing, but orders of magnitude worse, would turn earth into mars in less than a day

and now we're into apocalypse porn
What about the seasons? Tilt.

We've had some cosmic radiation events that killed off large land mamals b4.

It's possible we could just lose our birth rate and watch our current population turn geriatric and essentially collapse overnight. The very few left would probably not keep a modern tech level. May mutate. We could get real elves vs trolls vs gnomes with a backdrop of dead and overgrown cities. Maybe a few hardened military sites would keep a stockpile of weapons and drugs and a few planes tanks and hellies to reboot our crazy mythological worship of dragons and give us a few stories about the men in metal beasts to tell our great grand children.

I've always been a huge doomer about this shit, but someone who had been in the middle of a disaster i forget what it was Katrina or someshit said he was surprised how not bad it was, like neighborhoods instantly turn into quasi tribes just due to proxity of each other and each other's shit they care about property,family..etc and you easily fall back into that "lets worry about the outsiders not each other" mindset. but people need to be ready to handle their own shit for like 2 weeks in a FEMA is coming eventually kinda mild situation. but longer than that you start running into all sorts of problems
yeah 300,000 years of survival isn't a joke at all, i believe we can handle the adversity that nature throws our way

and i'll go a step farther and say that we require it, this modern "sterilized" society doesn't sit well with us because we don't have anything to fight for. In modern society you used to fight for God and Country, neither of those exist anymore so nobody has a sense of identity and they all fell into tribal groups based upon words that make them feel good or not.

It's all fake as fuck, because without the tech that enabled all these people to find each other, their tribes don't exist.

No Google, No Apple, No Samsung, and it's the year 1900 again.

i'd 100% rather deal with a Carrington event sequel than a worse Tunguska one, i think about that shit every time i see magnetaress's sig rofl.

yeah tunguska is frickin weird. even weirder that there is basicially zero explanation about what happened, when the astro-nerds talk about a comet exploding i get a real sense of "ok boomer" theres like no geologic evidence of any such thing other than millions of trees blown to the ground in the same direction

it's probable, but i would rather believe that it was an errant shot in an interstellar war

i too very much enjoy the doomsday stuff, the doomier the better
