I'm glad that the other car impacted on the passenger front side. You should go to the doctor. $$$

I rowed 5k yesterday as a little test to see how I was doing, and after that I was convinced I should get checked out. Xrays came back fine. Nothing looked broken.

I appreciate the kind words. I definitely feel fortunate that it happened how it did. If it had been someone else with a passenger, or a less sturdy person who didn't know not to brace for the impact, it could have turned out much worse.

The unsettling part is that there really wasn't any time to do anything about it. Still being alive is pure luck, being completely uninjured is good fortune I can't even wrap my mind around. Not to sound trite, but all I can say is make sure you don't put off living the life you want for yourself.

BTW... Some of those cans were in a bag in my trunk. I was going to recycle them. My toolbox and spare tire knocked the rear seats forward, and they weren't the kind designed for trunk access.

I'm fine. I didn't even bother going to the hospital. I didn't brace myself, and I had just rowed a half marathon so my body was relaxed. No injuries to speak of, except maybe a cracked rib.

You were convinced *after* rowing... Right [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

Glad you're okay! That was a nasty crash. Can you tell us about the situation in which it happened? Like... who was moving in what direction, street scene setup?

I always try to learn from other's experiences besides my own.

Cheers,

Slozem

I was headed westbound, he was headed eastbound. He came at about a 45 degree angle from the road, the road wasn't turning. So he probably slumped over and his hand brought the wheel over with it. The only thing you'll learn from it is how little you can do. On the interstate you don't even have time to estimate a point of impact. All you can do is relax and hope for the best. Never, ever brace for any impact. It doesn't matter if you fell off of a building or are about to get mowed down by a VW Golf. Roll if you can, relax if you can't. Swerving is just likely to put you in an equally bad situation if not worse.

Prevention is the biggest thing. Know what your vehicle can handle and what it can't. Drive it in a way that minimizes the weaknesses. The jeep I'm driving right now makes me nervous as shit because its maneuverability is zero. I've flipped it by just slamming on my brakes before, so I stay in the middle lane where I don't have to worry about idiots who cant merge onto the interstate, I can keep a clear view of everything around me, and I keep a safe distance from anyone that I see driving like a retard. They might only hit the people in front of you, but guess where you'll be in less than 2 seconds. Right up their tailpipe - with no lube. My driving habits have changed drastically. Instead of trying for the fastest possible route, I go for the safest possible route and on an hour drive it honestly only adds like 5 minutes that i'd just waste when I get home anyway.

Dying in a wreck wouldn't be the worst way to go. It's quick and painless, you don't hurt until afterward. The important thing that I didn't do was check to see if I was bleeding. You don't have a lot of time to get a shirt or belt tied down over an artery if you are.

The first thing I did once I realized I could get out of the car on my own was walk up to the first car behind me and make sure they were ok. I didn't even start limping for about 15 minutes. My ribs didn't hurt until the next day.

I was talking to a friend of mine today about a wreck he was in. He had his knee broken backward and walked on it. Didn't realize what had happened until he looked down and saw it, and then passed out.

I just pulled this off my cell. This was the dipshit's car. You can't really see it in this photo, but that wrecker on the far left is getting his engine out of the ditch. It landed that far away.

Great to hear you're doing fine after something like that...that's just insane. It gets you thinking, that's for sure.

Are you sure not seeing a doctor is a good idea though?

As an ex insurance adjuster, if i had a case like this, i would be treating you
very kindly, heh.
i dont recommend legal rep as they really take a good part of any settlement but if the insurer isnt behaving, make sure you get the treatment you need,
so to say.
PTSD may be a consideration here reading your new driving habits.
Hope you are on the mend
