There’s speculation that Russia wants to take back all of what the USSR lost but that is probably impossible since that includes more countries like even part of Germany
GDR wasn't a Soviet national republic

Kk some co-worker had said to me today they believed the USSR used to be part of Germany, is where I heard it

Either way, I would be surprised to see Putin continue to attempt to expand. It sounds like he’s spent a lot of time and resources on fostering pro-Russia sentiment in parts of Ukraine. That might make Ukraine a little easier to hold, other EU countries he invades won’t have that sentiment

That means leaving a chunk of your forces behind in each country you take to deal with the constant insurgencies and riots. Oh and there could be more of those back home as a result of quality of life going down due to sanctions. I wouldn’t put it past Putin to try, but I have a high amount of skepticism on him succeeding

Is that the same co-worker who says vaccinations are a secret plan to inject nanomachines into your bloodstream?

It'll be longer. He's hoping people cave or give him reasons to retaliate.

Here's a nightmare scenario: we invade/nuke a Russian target for some reason.

He nukes back like 3 or 5 targets then suffers massive military losses. Then backs off and turtles. China decides it owns everything next door.

That is also the most likely long term scenario if NATO gets involved.

He'll try to damage the west's economy. Nuke places like London.. Berlin. U.S. port cities.
There's no using "one nuke", or stopping at either 3 or 5 targets. If you use a nuke, you know you're getting glassed as a second strike to prevent you from using the rest of your arsenal, so the initial play needs to be to eliminate your enemy. Which you can't do because in the time it takes for your ICBMs to arrive, they've already launched in retaliation.

China has those new hyper-sonic missiles everyone's worried about because it significantly reduces your decision-making time in that scenario, but even if you targeted all the nuclear launch sites you think you know about, you still haven't eliminated nuclear submarine second-strike capability.

They've war-gamed all this shit out since the Cold War, and that's why Mutual Assured Destruction is the best deterrent against anyone using 1+ nukes. First guy to launch starts a snowball effect into the effective destruction of all of human civilization.

What if a nuke was used but then the country that launched it said they thought it was a normal missile?

What if a nuke was used on pretend accident but then the country sent a text to leader of the other country and said they could have a free shot at the city of their choice to avoid MAD?
