Red only makes sense in a TLP environment where the new populaton can:
1) Use DLCs to get their raid gear 2) join a server that isn't so far ahead of them that they can actually catch up and have a job at the same time. TLP PvP may get you a few hardcores looking for a more technically accurate classic PvP. But there just isn't a big enough population to keep a Red any bigger than the current one. Meanwhile, EQ PvP was tested for popularity with making the Zek server free. It didn't show the kind of popularity they are looking for. I don't necessarily think it was conclusive. But it will be hard to get DarkPaw to try it without some kind of evidence it could be good business.

as more expansion came in EQ, PvP got worse and worse. by the time the Zek merge happened the devs had effectively killed what made eq pvp fun and interesting. the luclin expansion introduced the first zones where pvp was disabled: the nexus and the bazaar. it got worse with pop including the books and plane of tranquility. pvp would happen near the zone outs, and people would just click back to the lame pvp "safe zones". then instancing became a thing. then they removed the corpse runs from pvp deaths and made us all spawn in some bullshit graveyard zone when we died in pvp. luclin was the beginning of the end for eq pvp. why would anyone ever play a pvp live progression server, when it would quickly advance to a point in the game's history where pvp is effectively coded out of the game? no. project 1999 is our best hope for a chance at experiencing eq pvp as it was. and the devs here have told us that a second pvp server is coming, so it's really just a matter of time before red 2.0 (or purple, or w/e) is released.

My guess is most people like to PvP a lot -- but they need to progress their characters regularly to avoid burn out. This simply can't be the case when only 1 guild dominates the raid scene. 1 guild dominating the raid scene is inevitable. Then people feel like the server is dead and quit. As for getting close to recapturing classic EQ PvP...you'll need a time machine for that one. Players just simply know too much, their hardware is too good, and they are willing to use cheats in their race to the bottom to be the best of their childhood video game.

our salvation rests solely on nilbog and rogean, and the second pvp server they have already been planning.

Red is perfect the way it is. Just like classic it only has a fraction of the playerbase interested, because PVP sucks and is full of assholes. The difference here is we have a much smaller overall playerbase to draw from.
