I liked both the 800 and 900 that I had, only sold them because they don't sound great until you get them up to stadium volume levels. Truth is I'm not going to be playing stadiums anytime soon!

In the next year or 2 I'll either be moving to an all-digital rig that goes straight to PA with no cabs to carry, or shelling out for a Soldano SLO-100 half stack and some ridiculous MIDI switching setup with rack effects. Probably the former, instant setup/teardown and less shit to worry about going wrong.

I used to have a lot of modern amps and cabinets, the usual 4x10's 2x12's SWR rigs and what not which sounded loud and clean but I play a very Sabbathy/Sleep style of music so I needed to find a rig that was suitable for a mammoth low-end sound. As you can imagine I'm running through Sunn amps and 2x15's so I'm pushing out some major dirtgrind low-end at my place.

It's not too uncommon though anyone that plays stoner/doom/sludge metal tends to stick around old vintage amplifiers or brands such as Orange, Mata-amp, Laney, and Sunn because of they're tailored to give that classic 60's-70's fuzz distortion and heavy bass response.

ugh can't edit here.

I meant to add that my GC is full of crappy low end Line 6 gear and GC's house brand Raven - outside of the Mesa section at least. There are also very few high end guitars besides PRS/Gibson and a few nice Fenders. It's all cheap stuff in there.

Yeah we're playing fast shit so need a much more defined and mid-heavy tone, the Soldano is basically perfection but it's a $4000 head... not happening anytime soon, especially not to play to 15 people in shitty bars.

You guys have any recordings up? I dig some of that stuff, usually depending on the vocals more than anything. Candlemass has some awesome tracks.

I got some old shit from yesteryear if I can find it, I haven't really done anything serious since like late 2009 early 2010 because the Indianapolis D.I.Y scene has stagnated a bit and lost several people as they moved to Pennsylvania to do bigger things and the scene was so dependent on sharing members

The guitarist I jam with slaves a 1965 Fender Bassman head to some cheap poweramp cause the unit is only 50w or some shit like that, so he just routes that into two fender 2x15's so when he palm mutes it sounds like a freight train running loose

Good players will sound good on just about anything. I've seen a video of Joe Satriani playing some kid's plywood strat through a tiny starter amp, filmed with a cheap digital camera and then run through the horror of youtube audio processing. He still sounded great. Obviously there are exceptions, but gear in general doesn't matter at all. (Yes I still want to buy that $4000 amp though!)

Big Satch always be sounding bad to the Cab, I watched that G3 summit shit he did awhile back and it near put me to sleep because it was like 4 hours of Hendrix covers and solo wars between Vai, Satriani and Malmsteen I couldn't feel any energy.

I dig all types of music to an extend (some shit is just intolerable but that's more the select song than the genre) but people that play nothing but extended solos that have some of the weakest riffs make me [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]
