Do you not realize that this is an ex post facto judgment? Obviously there was a very high chance it was going to be nothing, and very small chance that it was going to be a life threatening encounter, which on expectation makes it a lot more dangerous than buying groceries, if not so dangerous as storming the beaches of Normandy. If you blasely open your door at 4 AM, it's because you live in a safe area. SC obviously does not.

Also Mead, I tend to agree with you on the facts. I doubt a jury would consider ringing the doorbell to be assault. Sliding your pistol out a crack in the door is hardly heroic.
