This surprised me at the time:

Guy half my level wanted to duel in Felwithe. I told him he would die but he didn't care. He attacked me and the guards beat the crap out of him. I never even hit "A."

"A" was fun before you realized you could map the keyboard. Lots of corpses next to merchants.

There was a patch bug that was lots of fun: EVERYthing was KOS. Oasis was a slaughterhouse.

I remember being obsessed with camping humanoid NPCs for exp because it was more exciting and killing golbins, kobolds, etc was just too normal..

..I think something's wrong.

Hmm, in 1999 I can recall many things..

When I entered the world for the first time, I appeared in the Qeynos Newbie yard. It took a minute to figure out which were the players and which were the NPC's. I remember wondering what this line was that was floating along the ground.. I then read the name above it and saw that it was a snake. :-) That's my first memory of the game (I got in at launch). A friend had been playing the beta so he helped explain a few things later when he got on.. Some other great memories of those initial days..

I was fighting a fire beetle and suddenly I heard this loud clang/ding sound. I was like WTF was that?! I think I asked in ooc or shout and someone told me I just leveled up.. I then read the text and realized that's what it was.. I soon came to love that sound!

I remember my first trip out of Qeynos to Qeynos Hills.. I was scared, it was dark and I had a blast..

It was great that banded armor was worth something..

I made the same old mistake of hitting the A key while trying to talk to a merchant :-)

Getting killed by a guard for trying the begging skill..

Video cards at the time couldn't render too far out so there was always this grey wall where you couldn't see far. I remember later upgrading to a new graphics engine / new video card and I could suddenly see FAR off.. This was particularly weird in Qeynos Hills for me..

Best of all.. the sense of wonder and awe of exploring this massive world with over 2000 players on it. Exploring into the unknown.. Seeing the wizard spires, stone bridge and wooden bridge for the first time in North Karana...

Being able to stay at the Inns- to cure disease. Having a re-spawn timer when ya die- you would be able to watch from above you party being hacked down. The night blindness was the big, WOW.

MEOW

I wish I played in 1999 [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.] But when I was leveling up, I was with my boyfriend and his brother a lot. I had out an earth pet (but hell, I didn't know what the differences were) and my boyfriend told me to pull my pet back so the mob would run back but it was stuck! Boyfriend said "Oh, it's rooted" and I'm like "What's root?" loolllllllllll

I rolled a half elf ranger and going to qeynos for the first time was life altering. what really blew me away was seeing two dark elf casters hanging out on the zone wall near surefall glade zone. and people sitting around the fire burning there to camp out.

I had quite a few adventures and roleplaying moments until level 7 when, still completely enamored with the game world, I wanted to see freeport with my own two eyes. (just making a character in freeport wasn't enough, I needed the JOURNEY!) so I trekked off asking for directions in every zone I came to. everyone was very kind and offered buffs and sows. once I got to highpass, though...it was exciting because it was so dangerous. being so ignorant, and not heeding the words of passersby that I should NOT GO THERE! I never thought there'd be a ton of orcs at the other end.

respawning back at qeynos left me with such rage that I camped out and rolled a DE necro which became my main. imagine how thrilled I was when I discovered necro gets a bind spell, haha.
