Not trying to be mean, but put the cat down and get another pet in a year or two. Just lost my rottie at 12 years old. I drove every week from NJ to Pa for chemo, he had a tumor(cancer) growing on his heart. I spent over 22k for 6 months of chemo.
It made me feel better, but now I just feel like I was being greedy and wouldnt let go. The last 6 months of his life he was in pain and should have went in peace when god was calling his name.

Check another vet that has a soul and will lay things out clearly for you... The vet has to SOME clue of what's going on if he/she's worth a damn. A lot of places just want to push diagnostics for $$ when it's not even useful to do so (e.g. if an MRI will just confirm that the cat is going to die...why spend 3k on it) Also, if you get the MRI done...what if the procedure/meds are another zillion dollars?

It's painful to agree with you - but responsibility for your animals is part of becoming an adult and leaving your kid days behind. You either have to see animals as a disposable commodity (put this one down, get another), or you should have some bucks set aside for these contingencies.

As far as vets, is there a local college with a veterinary program? Might be a teaching college, where you can get some of this stuff done cheaper.

Care Credit is accepted at most vet offices. Pretty easy to get a zero interest deal for at least 6 months if not 2 years with them.
Sucks to have a sick pet. One of my cats died from sudden kidney failure about 6 months ago. But, it is what it is.

Just ask them for a payment plan.

theyll give you a long ass time to pay off whatever bills you've acquired.
