Would certainly free up some names...but then people like Dirtnap will swoop in, scoop up "premium names" and sell on for "premium prices".

Well first, I think it should probably be a one-time event. It would increase the numbers of toons deleted if people knew they only had one shot, and it would prevent people leveling toons specifically to be sacrificed. I think most of the people who have huge numbers of high-level toons don't specifically want them; instead it's some combination of a) bought them b) 'utility toons' c) nothing better to do. I'm sure they'd make new alts and level them and such but I don't think they'd try and PL and rebuild the army overnight.

Also Fountree IMO they should just have a long Velious beta. Personally I would rather play Velious beta than Kunark at this point [You must be logged in to view images. Log in or Register.]

The only thing releasing Velious would solve is the constant whining on the forums directed at volunteers who are already working towards its release.

What people don't realize is, that about 4-6 weeks later all the "what now?" threads will replace them...and everyone will have raided, and had their Velious experience. What then? More alts?

Y'all will always be demanding something... right now its Velious, next its probably Luclin or custom content.

Change this, ban people from doing that, release this...

...but if you call people out on this behavior, they turn on you and say you're a moran.

Kunark wasn't even ready and the issues in the first few weeks were pretty noticeable...

I don't think velious is even close, id rather wait for a legit velious than one where the mobs hp are way off, their spell tables, loot tables, ai etc etc is just wrong...

and those what no threads will be replaced with WTF Velious is borked!

ya moran

I can think of a lot of problems it would solve actually. Nothings ever going to please everybody 100% forever. I think the server has been very patient on waiting for Velious release.

Hopefully...

people get fed up with the wait and start helping by gathering information instead of whining about it.

Like what?

And before you say it, "raid mob competition", there's more to EQ and definitely more to Velious than ToV and Sleepers. Tons of factions, tons of non-raid mobs, tons of quests and tons of tradeskills that need to work.

I wasn't around for the Kunark release so I can't speak first hand, but what do you propose be done if an exploit or an improperly tuned mob is found?

Let's say a mob gives 2x the faction it should. How long is it acceptable to be left unfixed? What do you do to the people who discover and fully utilize this mob to max their faction in half the time? Ban them? Roll them back? Ignore it? Now what about the other people who weren't able to take advantage of it? Is that fair? Should it be fair? How do you handle all the bitching (rightful or not) on the forums as a result? There's a giant can of worms that can, and will be opened should things like this happen.

What about problems that doesn't benefit the players? What if the mob isn't itemized properly? What if Vulak drops cloth caps? Or if one of the warders is bugged and the Sleeper awakes improperly? Shouldn't have to handle that once it's released, when it can be properly tested in a longer dev cycle.

And problems will happen regardless. But I think the devs are quite right to hold off to make it as best as possible. Because when it is released, it'll be brilliant and a shitload of fun, at least, as fun as Velious ever was. Which, most people think seemed to be the pinnacle of classic EQ.

Alt army's beyond 3 lvl 60s are completely redundant. Most of the time, only 2 lvl 60s is necessary.

Worst case scenario having 1 at trak, 1 KC, and 1 at ej/td is all that is needed. For the most part, all you need is 2: 1 at trak, 1 at kc.
You're nuts. A minimum of one character in VP, a minimum of one at Trak. Need one at each of Fay, VS and Sev but you can manage those 3 with two characters between evacs and window overlaps. Advisable to have a toon at Fear portal but not necessary if you answer batphone immediately and mobilize fast. The only encounters that are really solid mobilizations are Inny (unless a guild is parked there), Talendor and Gore(lol). CT is a mess where anything can happen every time so all bets are off. Draco is basically a one-group mob if you do it right and have a good kite/pull.

The only serious problem with Loraen's idea that I see is the epic part. Maybe I'm an idiot, but the only 3 epics I have are SK, wizard and mage; having them trade-in the same as rogue/cleric/shaman/monk epics seems particularly obscene. I like the 25% chance at prenerf fungi, but it should be nodrop. Being able to trade, on average, 4 epic 60 rogues for one prenerf fungi seems waaay too easy for an item that's essentially priceless. I'd gladly 60 and epic a few rogues til I got a prenerf fungi, if it was nodrop I might have to think about whether it was worth it.

And yeah, it's super not classic. Heck having level 60s with epics in the first place isn't very classic pre-velious, so what the hell. I agree, the work for the GMs would probly be a no-go, but they could probably streamline it if they wanted to, something like the /movelog command, maybe /sacrifice <name of character to receive benefit>. For the item rewards the recipient should just get a token, and add a character to PoSky quest room that accepts tokens for rewards; as a fun classic-ish bonus, the guy that accepts should spawn the different turn-in guys and therefore restrict these to one every 8 hours in true PoSky fashion.
