Local McDonald's franchise with 27 locations fined $143,000 for violating federal child labor laws.
But hold on I can assure you that is the least crazy part of this story.
These restaurants were employing LOTs of kids who were 14 years old.
But employeeing 14 year olds isn't the illegal part of this because America has been going through a resurgence of repealing child labor laws in general (see IA)
The
illegal part was that they were making these kids work way longer hours than they were allowed too. Sometimes during school time.
That is just where it's starts to get weird because when they did some investigating - they found that at least 2 of the employees were 10 year olds. Reports were they were keeping this hush by not paying the kids who reportedly were working deep fryers until in some cases 2 AM.
The fine for hiring
10 year olds and having 14 year olds work these illegal hours is about $200,000 per a franchise
group. Most of the franchise groups in question own say 27 to 30 McDonald's each.
The average McDonald's restaurant brings in about 2.9 million dollars a year. Doing the math that is about $8,000 per day.
So if you own one of these 27 McDonalds in this franchise group it would take you about 12 hours to make enough revenue to cover the cost of the fine.
Think McDonalds will still carry out the violations with such a little fine?
