It just so happens that police tend to gather evidence as well as detectives, whom can be involved in the police force, in most cases. The problem wasn't the entire police force in question, it was about one man shooting another and then someone threw a race flag into it while it was already heated because one of the men was a cop.

I do believe we are becoming more and more a police state and I hate it, but I believe that this cop could have taken different actions in order to stop him, but he feared for his life. Judging by the size of Michael, its easy to believe. It is sad that the boy was shot and killed, and the cop definitely could've done something in homage to the boy's family if allowed. The cop doesn't belong in jail,though, maybe take away his right to a badge.
