I still don't understand why the covid vax discussion has to be so insipidly stupid and juvenile.

Old people should get it. People with compromised immune systems should get it. Young healthy people might be assuming more risk than the reward the vaccines provide, given their rapid development and extremely short-term data set. We don't know if they are safe ten years after administration, because they haven't existed for ten years yet. This is not "anti-vax", it's a common sense reading of the available data.

Not all vaccines are the same. The MMR shot was rigorously tested and developed over years before being used broadly. The covid vaccines were rapidly developed and rushed out the door under emergency use authorization (IE bypassing or curtailing most of the normal clinical procedures for safety and efficacy). Some people are understandably concerned by that fact.

You don't have to froth at the mouth and yell "antivaxxxorrrr!!" every time somebody expresses even mild skepticism of these still-experimental covid shots.

If the vax were a placebo it should still keep people who don't need to be in the hospital for Covid from going to the hospital for Covid, freeing up resources for Covid patients who do need to be in the hospital and improving their level of care, increasing their likelihood to survive.

Well yeah it's undeniably similar to a religious faith, especially because as much as he might talk about scientific authority, as soon as you present him with a perfectly valid scientific counter-point he insists it's wrong. He'll appeal to authority by claiming you're not an expert, and then you present him an actual expert who disagrees and he insists they're not scientifically credible based on nothing. It's a complete contradiction.

Vinay Prasad, Jay Bhattacharya, Bret Weinstein, Heather Heying, the european countries who have banned the covid vax for those younger than 30, the two dudes who literally resigned from the FDA citing the overzealous and myopic one-size-fits-all approach to the booster rollout; they're all just quacks! Sure, they have PHD's and MD's in medicine, evolutionary biology, virology, epidemiology, teach in some of the most prestigious universities and have thousands of citations by others in their fields, but none of that matters once they're presenting a heretical idea.
