It's impossible to prevent people from starting with a clean reputation. They can always just re-roll.

Account trading is a good thing. It helps the economy and allows people to jump around classes they may not have ever played. Most people do not have the time or inclination to level a class they've never played before into the 40s or 50s just to determine if they like it. That's a huge time commitment. Account trading allows people to test out other classes without being irrevocably bound to the toon. If you buy a character and don't like the class, you can turn around and sell it again -- no harm, no foul.

This is an emulated server. It shouldn't be about having the big, swinging e-peen. It should be about letting people re-experience a great game, and letting them explore elements of it that they didn't have the chance to explore way back when. Account dealing allows players to experience more of classic EQ. Personally, I have very little interest in waking up at 3AM to kill a dragon with 60 other people in a trivial encounter that I've done 100 times before, just in hopes that I obtain a minimal gear upgrade. But I do have an interest in, say, trying out a bard for the first time. That's fun, and I could do it when I want and when I have time. But if I had to actually start a bard from level 1? Meh, not real appealing to me. I don't have the time to do that with every class I want to give a go. It's so much easier to just farm for a couple nights and buy a toon.

I do agree account sales shouldn't be allowed. This post also should be in Server Chat not R&F. People have no problem at all selling their accounts for platinum using this forum or even in game auction and then selling that platinum to others for real money. Allowing account sales here encourages and supports real money trades eventually. Everyone knows this is true.

"Why are you selling your account?"

"I'm quitting the game..."

"Why do you need plat if you're quitting?"

"Oh I uhh.. wanted to give it to newbs."

Oh and it really isn't classic seeing people /auctioning accounts in EC or on server forums. It further encourages the mentality that things outside the game economy, accounts, should be bought and paid for.

Personally I'm paranoid and think some level of RMT is being encouraged here which is why the post in Server Chat linking to a project 1999 RMT website has been left alone and not edited.

"We don't allow discussion of RMT here!"

Something links to a 1999 RMT website. Nothing happens even after thread is locked.

Just to bring up another point...

Allowing accounts to be sold for platinum just makes dealing with RMT much more difficult. You confirm an account was sold for real money but then the person with the account says, "Oh no sir! I just bought this accoount from someone 5 minutes ago for 100k! I don't know where it was before!" It allows a convenient cover story for why an account has changed hands 10,000 times but never for real money. *wink wink*

Well as a person that has bought two accounts, one with platinum, one with an item, I can say that even for a person with alot of time on thier hands...it still takes ALOT of time to level a character from scratch from lvl 1. Youd probably end up spending more plat on the iron rations you consume to 60 than just paying 200k for a lvl 60 or whatever. Its not fair to the people who have made alot of cash playing thier mains to have to level up another character, taking time away from thier main. Its allmost like you're saying just ban alcohol completely because theres people out there that cant use it right.

The dude could never sell his account at any price. I do get a chuckle knowing that people would buy an account in a 10 year old fucking game though. makes you wonder how retarded some peeps can be. yeah lets purchase a fucking power-leveled character with no skills, fucking brilliant.
